To save money/look good, what have you switched and passed off ......

as more expensive? I have decanted cheaper/value vodka into an old branded empty vodka bottle and got away with it! What about you? Is there anything that you have switched and got away with, without anybody noticing?

I do the vodka trick - but I do filter it first :D Kept a Smirnof bottle Mr TM had put in recycling box, and replaced it with the Tesco's cheapest vodka bottle instead.

I haven't had to hide anything from Mr-nearly-VickyA, but I did once buy my dad's birthday present using points I'd saved up in WHSmiths. Even better, the present (a rugby book) was in the sale for £3 and I still had money left over to buy a card and wrapping paper. He'll never know!!

I read it on here (of course) :D

If you have an ordinary Brita type water filter, then buy the really cheap vodka and put it through the filter 5 times. It really does take out the harsh taste - I can't drink the stuff neat but we did a before and after taste/smell test and it's quite noticeable how much smoother it is after filtering. Rinse your filter out a couple of times afterwards and you can make your tea as usual too.

I read in the Sunday Times, I believe, that no vodka costs more than 20p per bottle to make, all the rest is clever marketing.

My sister bought coffee for the staff room at work from home bargains (about 1/2 the price of supermarket). Normal Nescafe, but with greek writing instead of english. All the other staff moaned & said it tasted funny.
Next time it was her turn to buy, she bought the same "greek" Nescafe but put it in an "engish" jar. No-one said a word!

I use Tescos own shower gel for myself and my daughter, but MrJudi insisted on Lynx shower gel for himself. So i used to buy Tescos value shower gel and decant it into the Lynx bottle - i got away with it for 6 months till he caught me filling it up. (I would have used Tescos brand but they didnt do one the same colour as the Lynx!).

Needless to say, now ive been rumbled i havent done it since.

I have poured the Asda Baileys £2.99 lookalike into a Baileys bottle at christmas and nobody noticed the difference - you can't do it with the Lidl one as that is much sweeter and nasty.
