not sure if this is the right place to ask but....

..... does anyone know of a site where i can get instructions for making a really simple rag doll? preferably free?

have looked and i can't find anything at all...... i sort of told someone at playgroup that i would be able to get the instructions off the web and it would be easy[ish] to make one...... now i feel obliged to do it <blush> but can't find anything.

HELP!

THIS one seems quite detailed. Patterns for clothes too so she doesn't have to go in her birthday suit.

Very basic instruction with no pattern HERE

That Amelia in the first link is so ugly!! I'm sure you could do something more friendly. The second link seems to be more like it, as it's a rag doll you can use whatever's around, so it depends what the person who wants to do it has got, there's no point in spending for special material.

:rotfl: Poor Amelia!! There she was, thinking she was the Belle of the Ball and while she waits for her Prince Charming, she did a bit of surfing, read your comment, burst into tears and .... kicked that poor cat!

swampy - good luck this afternoon with your project, let us know how you got on. Oh and if you don't like stitching the face, use a couple of buttons for her eyes ;)

Yes I suppose we should feel sorry for her after a nasty human made her look like that! ;)

not actually gonna do the face - a lady at playgroup was looking at a catalogue of 'expressions' dolls to use with some children she does voluntary work with - they were about £25 each tho and she doesn't get any funding.

so i suggested that if someone <ie me> made some basic rag dolls then someone else could embroider faces on using different emotions [happy/sad/angry etc] using the catalogue ones as a pattern.

so you see it is a moneysaving thing really...... i just want to do one to see how it turns out then will beg material to make others if she thinks they would be ok.

Ooooh, in that case then ..... how about, you use Amelia but do not add the legs! Instead, make a 2nd Amelia w/out legs and join the two lower body halves together so you have one of those "upside" down dolls. The dress will hide the 2nd underneath doll. For each emotion there is always and opposite one.

If that's too challenging, how about, making Amelia as per original instructions, but, stitching the hair in such a way that she can have 2 faces, one either side (?)

You are such a lovely person volunteering to do this for your equally sweet lady at the playgroup. Very best wishes with your project - it's a good one!! In fact, I love it so much, I have some odds n bobs of material (not much and not in huge pieces, certainly enough for dolly dresses) which I will happily send you if she likes your dolls. Also, as money is an issue - instead of paying out for calico for the dolls bodies, you might strike lucky and get some plain suitably coloured pillowcases/sheets from the charity shops which would be a reasonable alternative.
