Hi everyone
Please would you let me know any cleaning tips you have for removing the black sort of marks that mildew leave.
I inherited a lovely shower but the grouting in between some of the tiles is quite black. Would love to know if a vinegar/ bicarb/ any other money saving cleaning thing would get rid of it.
Any ideas greatly appreciated
Thank you all in advance

I think this is the third time I've posted on this subject, but I still stand by Dettox Mould and Mildew Remover. Okay not exactly "home made" but only about £1.79 for a big aerosol can, that was more than enough to treat my bathroom tiles several times. I don't mean you have to use it often, just that mine were in a bad state so I repeated the treatment a few times on the same day.
It's so easy too - just spray all over (make sure the room is well ventilated as it has quite strong fumes), leave about 10 minutes and rinse off. I could actually see it working - the black turned to brown then back to white, and both the tiles and the grout were as good as new.
Sorry - posting a correction, it is in a plastic bottle with a spray nozzle top, not an aerosol can.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I've used regular Dettol spray disinfectant to good effect - gets rid of the main stains, then a follow-up with a 'whitening toothpaste' (one with sodium bicarbonate in) - or indeed a paste of bicarbonate of soda (both applied with an old toothbrush to the grout/window putty)There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
I find thick bleach applied neat with a tootbrush giving a little scrub and rinsed of after about 5 minutes works well0

I wouldnt use thick bleach because the stuff which is in it to make it thick leaves a residue which subsequent mould can grow on.
Either that or get a pack of grout from the pound shop, then after you have cleaned the gubbins out re-grout the tiles. Its really easy to do.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I have got to agree - this stuff is AMAZING. Had a mildew crisis when I moved back into a house I had been renting out (somepeople obviously don't do ventilation), struggled for a while with the bleach - then Mum bought this stuff, and WOW!
Goes a long way - make sure you let it soak on, and afterwards, make sure the room is adequately ventilated, as bathrooms are prone to mildew otherwise."It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

Yes it does
If it is really bad 'paint' the bicarb on with a paint brush (getting it well into the grout lines) then squirt on some vinegar and watch it fizz! The longer you leave it on for the better (at least overnight). Sluice it off with HOT water (I chuck the water from the kettle at the tiles, be careful not to burn yourself)When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
My mum bought mine from tescos - also seen it in Wilkinsons and Sainsburys."It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."
