Pound shops - huh!

Got a bit carried away this morning, and bought a few items in the local Pound shop. Including a gadget that takes off can ring-pulls, also bottle screwcaps and crown corks. Bargain - £1 !!!

Went to Morrisons this afternoon, and the exact same gadget was on sale for 79p :(.

Oh well, some you win, some you lose... (I did find 50p on the pavement en route, otherwise this would be a mega-sulk ;)).

MSE message - shop around, even when it's only a quid!
:D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I think you can get great bargains in the £1 shop, or complete and utter rubbish. You have to weed through the crap to get to the good stuff in my opinion

I found tarpaulins in the pound shop for £1, in B & Q they are £2.48 for the same size. Great for putting under groundsheets when camping, so you dont have to clean fitted groundsheets and can hang the tarps on your line.

Wilkinson is also often cheaper for some items.

Have to say I hate the pound shops. Too many customers, long queues on checkout with miserable assistants. :(

Nearly everything in Wilko is cheaper than everywhere else especially personal items such as shampoo, toothpast etc, unless its on bogof somewhere else, although there are some bogofs in Wilkinson!!

There's usually quite a few BOGOF's in Wilko's, I bought their own brand babywipes today which are normally priced at £1.60 each, today they were down to £1.34 and on a BOGOF.

And I know it's a little early, but the best time to go christmas shopping in Wilko's is Christmas Eve about 11.30am, I worked as a christmas temp there last year and it was ridiculous how cheap they were selling things off, along with my staff discount I ended up getting £150 worth of stuff for about £40.

our poundland has some interesting stuff sometimes. At the moment they are doing extendible usb cables, network cables and usb extension cables. If I buy these anywhere else it would cost at least a fiver each.A little while ago they were doing flourescent cycling gillets and a couple of weeks ago ,I bought 2 trimmers to cut my digital photos down neatly(each with a spare blade)about £6 for the same item in Kleeneze catalogue.
The tub of marvel I bought in there was 1.49 in sainsburys and the candarel was 1.49 too.
Most of their Art stuff is cheaper in wilkos though and some of the DIY stuff is very poor quality.Ive bought spring bulbs in there 2 years running without a single one growing.

Pound stores are great!!!! Today they had pet dental chews that are £3.29 in Pets at Home (I cleared the shelves) and a pet toy that I had seen on ebay for £4 with two days still to bid!

As with everything you have to shop around. Most 'Pahhhnd' shops are quite good value but you can sometimes get better price/quality in places like Argos or Woolworth's.

My best pahhnd shop purchase was a little 3/4 size ironing board (my flat is tiny) that cost only £5.49. Presumably it was made for little Chinese houswives!

I'm little and chinese and my ironing board is one of those really big extra wide ones. I can iron my t-shirts in one go without having to adjust it on the board. Rah! :rotfl:

I bought a 7 in 1 universal remote control unit from Poundland some time ago...I defy anyone to find one of these in non-pound shops for less.

I agree....sometimes, you can find some real bargains from pound shops...you just need so sort the wheat from the chaff :-)
