Having been a creeping jesus around this board for a while now, i have been taking all the tips on board, and for the last month or so, have home cooked everything!
Now the shopping bill is half what it was.....but the portions are a lot bigger, and the food is 100% better BUT.....ive put on a LOAD of weight (around half a stone!!)
The funny thing is, that i dont find myself going in the biscuit cupboard any more coz im more than full (the kids have stopped snacking between meals too) so i must be doing something right!!
WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG????
At this rate, im gonna have to go back to convenience junk just to lose weight!!

You don't need big portions of home cooked food cos it isn't packed out with chemicals, it's all just good nutritious FOOD. I know it's hard when it tastes so good but..........eat less! (Saves even more money too!)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

Sounds like you just need to reduce your portion sizes - put less on your plates and put the rest aside for a lunch the next day or in the freezer for a meal another night.
With smaller portions AND healthier food, I bet you'll find that weight coming off again no problem.0 -

Since I've changed to the "mse way of life" I've noticed a couple of things.....
Eating more healthily, like people say no processed junk being used as fillers just good food. I feel fuller on less, I used to feel bloated after eating - no matter what the portion size - but now I've realised just how much more comfortable I am. I've lost half a stone in the past 2 weeks!!!
Stopped the kids having yougerts after hearing how much sugar went into them and gave them fresh fruit instead, also cut down on things like crisps and choccy biscuits (not that they had many of these anyway) and was shocked when my eldest came home on Friday and was a nightmare......she was acting like a complete loon, making silly noises and generally acting like she was "high". I questioned her about what she'd been upto and it turned out one of the kids in her class had, had a birthday and had taken sweets in for everyone....one small lolly hyped her up for 2 days. Shocked wasn't the word!!
Have started to feel very virtuous about this "mse" lark and keep tutting at people when they tell me what they've brought or had for tea....;)
It's like a cult - but a nice cheap money saving healthy eating stoozing tarting freebie kinda one!! :T
p.s. wasn't meaning to sound smug about the half a stone loss - but :T me!!!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Well done Pooky, half a stone is great :T“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

That's a good point, tiff. I often forget that you COULD still be making high fat meals in the old style way. I look through old cookbooks sometimes (I have such an exciting life, hehe!) and I'm surprised at how much lard, etc. seemed to go into everything. But then I guess most people were more active then, and had colder houses?
And pooky, way to go on the weight loss!! And I hadn't realised till you mentioned it that I've also lost that bloated feeling, but feel nicely full instead, after an MSOS meal.0 -
I've found I use more oil to soften veg before cooking etc or butter because Flora isnt as good for you but fortunately I havent put on weight. When I think about it though, I used to buy ready meals, there was probably more fat/bad stuff in that than there is by me cooking in a bit of oil!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

How about a compromise ... my son loves yoghurts, but like you I was concerned about the amount of sugar and other additives he was getting in ready made stuff, so I've started buying large pots of Greek-style yoghurt and my son adds his own choice of fruit or whatever to it ... usually kiwi, raspberries, mango, passion fruit, banana etc ... and he actually prefers this much more and loves preparing it himself too
I don't have anything to compare with but the Tesco's Healthy-Living Greek yoghurt has 8.2g sugar, 2.7g fat (1.6g saturates) and 0.1g sodium per 100g if you want to make a comparison with your usual yoghurts. Would be interesting to see the differences"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I've found I've been losing weight too - I resent paying out so much for crisps and choc and stuff from vending machines so I just bring fruit from home instead
. But it probably is the fact that everything you're eating now is food rather than filler coffeeandfags that's causing your problem - maybe you could post up your meal plan for the week and we could take a wee look for you? I'm getting to be a diet expert (having lost and regained weight so often... ) and I'd certainly be happy to give things the once over for you?
Well done PookyPre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0
