hi i am new to the forum and must say i like it here very much.
i was wonder about a winter payment or cold weather payment and if i am eligable. i have an 18month old daughter and my house is freezing im sure all the mummies here will understand u dont like ure baby to be cold but to put heating on im finding 200pound duel fuel bills evry three months, this is slightly to much for us. also we seem to be using alot of water but not sure how, like 99 pounds in 6 weeks. this we really cant afford. so if anyone has any advice about the payments or can link me to a fuel saving thread id much appreciate it
happy to have made my first post :j :j

I think winter fuel payments are just for the elderly,
there is a utilities board here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=77:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
Also, could you not set up a monthly direct debit plan so when the bills come in you havent got a big wad of money to pay out?:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0

maybe switch to a cheaper gas and electricity provider, I pay £30 per month for duel fuel online with powergen, if you look on the utilites part of this forum it will give you ideas :00

I think I need to see about changing supplier. I have to put £30+ in my gas meter everyweek and my electric meter I put £25-£30.
My landlord took the fire out so I have to have the central heating on from waking up with the kids but I do turn it off once they are in bed and i snuggle up with a quilt. 0 -

WOW that is alot of money each week, i only put £18 in the gas meter each week and £9 is a debt on it they take off each week, so i only use appox £9 a week gas and i have a large 4 bedroomed house, and elec is around £8 a week and the washing machine and tumble drier is on at least 4 times a day!!
I would seriously look into this you are paying way to much if i can have the heating on for 5 hours a day and every electrical item on in the house practacialy all the time (kids!!) for approx £17 a week, something is wrong.
Hope you get it sorted.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
I remember when single parents used to get winter fuel payments. We would only get it if the temp had gone below a certain number but it always helped incredibly.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

yes they still do it, I have had it twice, the temperature has to go below zero for 1 week to get it.jembie wrote:I remember when single parents used to get winter fuel payments. We would only get it if the temp had gone below a certain number but it always helped incredibly.0
