Please Help Best way to Remove Baby Stains

Whats the best thing to use to remove stains, from sick to food to poo

Any ideas will be helpful

I find some stains real hard to get out, even using the expensive products.

I am a single mother on a budget so the cheapest most effective thing is whats needed

Either nappy sterilising solution (good soak, very good rinse, then wash as usual).

Washing Soda Crystals: Soak in a solution of wsc, rinse well, then wash as usual.

Shout spray is brilliant. I have a very messy 6 year old and I swear by Shout on his clothes. It's one of the cheaper stain remover products too.

A couple of weeks ago, we went out to a family pub and he was wearing a white top. By the end of the day, it was covered in gravy, green face paint and juice. A good squirt of Shout before it went in a normal wash lifted all that out first time.
Here I go again on my own....

Perhaps not the best time of year for this one, but sunshine is the best at removing poo stains. When DS2 was in his washable nappies, I would hang them on the line and the sunshine would always take out the yellow marks. Even if it was rainy, I would lay them inside but in the sun and the marks would fade.

Sonething to think about for when the weather turns:)

Astonish do a tub of stain remover for £1 and it can be mixed into a paste- cheaper than the sprays and lasts ages.

A note of caution: as these stains are on baby items, do take care which cleaners you use!! Baby skin is very sensitive, as you know, and some of the commercial products which are great on items for toddlers and above, just *may* not be suitable for babies.

Also, "expensive" doesn't always mean "best" ;)

ticklemouse is absolutely correct when it comes to the bleaching effect on sun dried stains. Equally, a good old fashioned "boil wash" is great - in this day and age that means a 90 degree setting for wash of your nappies (assuming you are using cotton).

  • My mum swears by Napisan which has worked on everything from grotty nappies to a v delicate christening gown and 5 babies have had no prob with it. It can be hard to find though so I started using Astonish. The stain bar was about 70p and has lasted ages for food stains. I don't fancy touching poo stains so they go for a soak with some washing soda or Astonish powder. I agree wholeheartedly about the amazing powers of the sun - roll on summer!

i was recommend to try soda crystals , i must say i was a little worried about how clothes would turn out. as i have a 2 yr old girl and a 5 month old boy. both seem to be muck magnets.
anyway i am so pleased with the results. if a stain very bad i pre soak the clothes first in soda crystals , but if not too bad then i just wash as normal. but i dont use wahing powder anymore. just soda crystals. and i can't complain about the price. the soda crystals are 51p from tesco and a packet lasts me between 3 and 4 weeks.
also i have found that putting less clothes in the machine is helping. as the clothes bash against each other helping to get stain out.
also instead of fabric conditioner use white vinegar. it makes your whites whiter , and doesn't make clothes smell of vinegar either. also this makes a cheaper alternative to fabric conditioner
