Write off value

My car was recently hit by another and had considerable damage - the garage estimate it at £3100 although say this could go up when they start. I have been trying to sell the car and have had an offer of £3000 and a garage has valued it at £2500 trade and £3000 on a part exchange.
The insurance company have said that they will not write my car off as the damage is cheaper than the value of the car. However it is going to take over a month to sell during which I cannot advertise it, and when I can if people do a HPI check will it not say the car has been in an accident.
Can anyone advise me on why my insurance company are not writing it off - they refuse to tell me what value they have placed on the car.

No, accidents are not regsitered, only write-offs.0 -
As i said in my original post the damage to the car is already estimated at £3100 and expected to go up and I have had the car valued at between £2500 and £3000. I am not saying they should write it off but I can't understand why they haven't?
I now can't sell my car until repairs are done which means I will now have to pay out for another MOT and tax as the estimated repair date is past these and have been told there is another delay as of today.0 -
With referance to write offs if the insurance dont collect ownership of, or the vehicle within 28 days can you keep it ? ... much as you would if you handed somthing in to the police and can claim ownership if no one comes forward within 28 days?
Or where would i go to find this info out?0 -

No you cannot, you might be able to charge for storing the vehicle if it is on your private property0
