does anyone know for sure, if this is genuine?
the link is not the official uk national lottery's website, and from the official site, i can't find any mention of this competition. i could be wrong though.
someone has posted a thread in the praise, vents and warnings board with a very similar link, and camelot have confirmed that it is nothing to do with them, or the national lottery.

Doesn't that URL shout Ridiculoso to anyone else??
URL for the national lottery
http://www.national-lottery.co.uk
URL for this National Lottery run competition..
http://nationallotterypdsa.ioko.com/
!!!!!!??
Why would the National Lottery start up a WHOLE NEW domain name just to run this competition??
Have some common sense people!!!0 -
That is the reason I posted - its VERY convincing and if you view the HTML version of the email you obviously dont see the other site address.
The main things I picked up on:
My name is known
My National Lottery signin name is known
The email is very convincing to the extent of the name and IP of sender shows correct for National Lottery
However the site is not the national lottery one & they say they dont know anything about it.
To me it screams hack rather than phish - details are too convincing for a general phishing scam.0 -
Fortunately, it only asks for an email address, so not too much information has been given away, thankfully
I can't believe I didn't notice that url0 -

Maybe there will soon be at least 89 people who receive a "congratulations, you have won a marvellous prize.... all you have to do to claim your prize is to send us............etc etc" emails.
Interesting to see how this plays out, all the links on the page go direct to the real site, the admins of the real site should be aware of it.0 -
The email that I received advertising the comp contained my lottery user id and obviously they had my email address and to enter I only had to enter my email address ie less information than they already had.0

So it looks like the problem must have originated with the National Lottery site :mad:0 -
I'm 100% certain that a similiar domain name has been used on here on the past.I've searched but cannot find it.
I recall that it was looked over & felt by everyone to be fine. The web site above is registered to a company in York who appear to have some high profile media clients. Here are a few links for them..........
http://www.ioko.com/
http://whois.domaintools.com/ioko.com
I will not be entering as I would not be able to get the time off to go to South africa & I'm not really a footie fan.Otherwise I would enter like a shot.
To put the entry form in perspective & looking on the worst case scenario all that it asks for is your email address. Most of us in here have a dedicated comoing mail address so where is the risk.I get loads of junk so if it was a scam I would get a bit more.
I'll stand by my first opinion & say it's fine though.0 -
I've dug around a little more & found that "ioko" has appeared on here in the past here
I'm sure they have appeared elsewhere on here recently as I did not use the comps board when the above was posted.I get the feeling that they are providing IT/Media services to Camelot.0
