an overseas buyer (canada) won an item of mine,
she never contacted me before auction end to ask how much the postage would be so i emailed her and told her.
now the auction has ended and she has only paid for uk shipping and has asked for it to be sent to her mother in the uk as she will be visiting soon.
i think i have 3 choices,
post to to her mother like asked and not be covered under paypal and just take the chance,
send her another email telling her postage to canada etc
or just post to canada and cover the costs myself. (this last one i'm not too sure about as i made her aware of postage before listing end and told her it would need to be sent to her paypal address
i don't really know which option to go for, i am going to email her now anyway and see what she says.

Well, don't pay the cost to Canada yourself!
Is the item worth a lot? Is the postage to Canada a lot? ie, is it heavy?
Let us know what she said in her reply.0 -

Hi Fridayschild, the item was a disney mermaid dress, and the winning bid was £16.00 so not a major amount, the postage to canada was about £7.00
this was the email i sent to her
many thanks for your winning bid and paypal payment. unfortunately as your registered paypal address is in canada, that is the only address i can post to as if i were to post to any other address i wouldn't be covered under seller protection. i understand that this is frustrating for you so i'd like to offer 2 choices,
the first would be a discounted postage to canada the actual cost of postage is around £7.00 but i would only charge £4.00 (so it would be a total of £20.00, if this is the case i will refund your paypal payment and send you a new invoice with the international postage, or the second option would be to mutually cancel the transaction.
please can you contact me to let me know how you want to proceed, and i'm sorry for the inconvenience caused.
i've offered her a discounted postage as i was probably a little wrong for not putting in my auction that it would have to go to the paypal registered address, (although i did tell her before it ended)Can you see the mountains through the fog?0 -
Can the buyer not set up the UK address as a gift address on paypal & then everyone is happy0
-
That's very considerate of you, I would probably have done something similar.
Don't worry about not having put it in the description about the paypal registered address though, no-one does, and, as you say, you did inform her before it ended and she went ahead anyway.
Hopefully she will reply soon, and nicely. Don't forget the time difference though.
Just had a thought, another option might be if her mum had a paypal account. That might work if you refunded your buyers payment and her mum paid instead. My Brother paid for me once before I opened my own paypal account.
Wait and see what she says anyway and do let us know.0 -

Just a quickie - if you don't get a response to how to set up a gift address etc. try the ebay community pages, there's always someone around there who will know.0

To add a gift address the original payment needs to be refunded if it has been made (otherwise you can't process it with that new address) All you do is go to profile and on the drop down add or edit address. When the buyer pays they just select the new address. You can also add one when going through the payment process.
As long as paypal have the tick and say ok to send on the payment your covered by seller protection (it doesn't have to be confirmed it just has to say ok to send and eligable for selller protection)
I have about 4 or 5 adresses on my account where I have had things sent to relatives.0 -
When you log into paypal, go to your profile and there's an add or edit address option.
If I've wanted something sent elsewhere I add them on ebay and paypal, so there's no conflicting options of where to send.

I love gift addresses i have 2 set up in paypal now so when i go to pay through ebay i can just click a drop down box.
I hope it works out for you op.
If you do send to Cananda in future its wise to be aware of special customs rules about where to put address and senders address!!!!! They are strict and will refuse entry on items incorrectly addressed. Its been awhile since i sent one but i believe the senders address needs to go in the top left hand corner and senders address below in bigger writing.0
