Need advice on where's central in York?

OH booking a lads day out and I'm trying to find a hotel for them near some pubs in York Problem is that I've only ever stayed in Park Inn, across the river from where the shops are. Where are the pubs in York? lol

I'm looking at Premier Inn, not too far away on the map from Park Inn (the only real place I have for reference). Is this central enough to be close to the pubs? Is there a better hotel or rough location I should be looking at?

They'll be arriving by train if this makes any difference....

Thanks very much guys!

  • Hi,

The premier inn is central to the centre and close to the train station,

Just across the road there are pubs,

Hope you have a good time !!
  • The pubs are fairly scattered throughout town - some on Market Street off Coney Street, some on Micklegate near the train station, some on Church Street off Low Petergate, some on Pavement at the top of Coppergate, some on Stonebow further up Pavement, and some on Goodramgate off Low Petergate. Basically, most streets in York apart from the two biggest shopping streets (Clifford Street/Coney Street and Parliament Street) have some kind of decent pub on them.

With that in mind, I'd maybe think about the Travelodge on Piccadilly which backs onto a Wetherspoons for a cheap start to the night, and is about ten minutes walk from Fossgate (Blue Bell) and Pavement/Stonebow (Golden Fleece/Black Swan).

I would go for Brigantes on Micklegate, the Hansom Cab or Three Tuns on Market Street, the Golden Lion on Church Street, the Golden Fleece on Pavement, the Black Swan on Stonebow, the Old White Swan on Goodramgate, and one of the York Brewery pubs - either the Yorkshire Terrier on Stonegate (off Coney Street), the Three Legged Mare on High Petergate or the Last Drop Inn on Colliergate.

The premier Inn on Blossom street is about a 10 minute walk to city centre, you go down Micklegate which takes you to a few numerous pubs and bars. Start at the punchbowl on the corner of Micklegate and work your way down having a drink in each of them, its called the micklegate run. Premier Inn is probably the nearest to the station hotel wise except for the one next ddoor but that is really expensive.

Near the park inn there is a hotel, it was called encore but when I walked past on sunday there was a sign to say it would soon be a travelodge so might be worth looking there too and see if there are any £29 rooms available. Like the other poster said there is the other travelodge but that is slightly further dowwn the road but not by much. What is the rough age range of the people going? I ask as a few of teh pubs that have been posted I would avoid at all costs, I'm 31.

For cheapness if you can't get travelodge rooms you can go 5 minutes walk further away from the premier in to the ibis, I think it is about £60 per night x
