Surely to be eligible for full refund they have to return exactly in the condition it was recieved in, box and everything?0

It sounds like they might be pulling a fast one. They may send their old one back and sell your new one.
I think that for a SNAD you need to to return as the item was sent to you, they cannot do this.
If you take it back out of choice depends if you are feeling generous (they could have dried up product) or to avoid the feedback/DSR hit. I think it depends on the tone of their communication, maybe whatever you do they will neg you. Have you offered a partial refund on return of the item?0 -
If they SNAD dispute, Paypal only ask them to send it back with online tracking. They don't give a hoot what condition it comes back to you, they will refund the outward postage and purchase price.
If it's not a lot of money, and you feel the buyer may be right, refund without return. My philosophy is, that it is pointless getting something back which you are going to chuck out, causing you and the buyer hassle (and cost to them) for no reason, this usually results in pos feedback rather than neg.0
