I really want to take my children away for a few days somewhere in the lake district for three to four days in February half term but everytime I come close to finding something its either to early (alot dont open 365 day a year) or are fully booked.
Has anyone seen a nice cottage that had availability starting Friday 12th Feb, with 3 bedrooms. If so please please let me know I was really looking forward to it but cant believe what a nightmare it is to find availability so early in the year.
Want to pay under £300 maybe this is the problem?:(

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Have you looked on the Hoseasons website? They have a choice of caravan park, lodges, cottages. You may be better off choosing a caravan with central heating, there are some lovely ones in the Lake district

Maybe broaden your location. If you specifically want the lakes for some reason maybe this is not an option but the Yorkshire dales, Northumberland are not far away if you have the transport.
Apart from nice scenery and walks which the lakes are famous for there is not much more for young children to do. If yours are young? Me myself love that sort of thing that's why i married a Cumbrian girl. But check further afield unless it has to be the lakes. As Yorkshire and northumberland is great for walks and scenery0 -
Several sites you could try are cumbrian cottages, lakelovers or welcome cottages, these may still have some cottages left if you do a detailed search , parents used 2 of these companies and found them reasonable. Hope this helps.:)0

Thanks everyone, Ive tried Hoseasons which I really liked the look of but alot of places in cumbria are still shut unfortunately or at least I cant get it to give availability for Feb.
We will be travelling straight from work (4.30) so I dont want to travel more than an hour so we get to our destination before dark which would have made the lake district perfect, havent tried Grizedale area yet though which a friend has mentioned so will be trying that next, fingers crossed.
Munka1 thanks for the tips only tried welcome cottages so hopefully Ill have more luck with the other two.
Keep going back each day to check for late availability but im spending over two hours at a time, each time I try
Im looking for three bedrooms within a mile of a local pub which serves food and nice for walks. My children are 4 and 6 and are still quite easily pleased and as were going with nana and grandad they wont need much more entertaining lol!I hope that my child, looking back on today

You may find something on the Cumbria and Lake District Website. There's a really good list of accommodation in the Lake District. If you choose an area then click on the self catering tab which covers cottages, lodges and caravans, hopefully there'll be something for you. I'm too lazy to look for you

if you get really stuck i know this caravan is lovely - has 2 bedrooms and a lounge area that converts into beds, its 200 per week and has loads of beaches etc nearby.. its not the lakes and its not a cottage but if you really want to go away the money you save on accomodation you could use for petrol...its fully heated and theres some lovely walks nearby
there a gorgeous pub 5 mins walk away which serves great food.. nana and grandad could go in the bedroom with double bed, 2 children in the bunks ( small bedroom) and you could sleep in the lounge. On the site of the van there are horses in the next field that the chidlren can feed, the guy who owns the place has chickens and ducks the kids can feed and the beaches and walks are lovely.. The cost ( £30) per night includes all heating and electric and gas and water..I really would reccomend even though its not the area you want... just a thought
have a look.. www.brianplattcaravan.comBaby due 4th May 2013

Hello,
I would highly recommend hoseasons.
We stayed at a park in November, quite chilly outside, but the caravan had central heating and a gas fire, so very warm and cosy.
I can't recommend anywhere in the lakes, but we stayed at Spring House Country Park which is around 4 miles from Hexham in Nortumberland.
It is set in slaley forest, very quiet, with a small play area, you also have use of childrens bikes and scooters which are left at the playpark.
There are some lovely forest walks, and a small on site shop.
It is so peaceful, my 4 year old loved it.
There is no clubhouse and no pubs in walking distance. But we were just after a nice relaxing break so this suited us.
We took board games etc...
Hexham is a nice small town with plenty of shops to stock up.
We stayed in the healey 2 which was beautiful, I could have lived there lol!
I had a quick look on Hoseaons for Cumbria and there are quite a few parks coming up for 3 nights starting 12/02/2010.
There's Seven Acres, which is situated in Holmrook, in the Lakes.
There's only a laundrette on site, but it does say there are shops and pubs in easy reach. Also not far from beaches of Seascale and Rigg within 2 miles. The 8 berth caravan is £145 for 3 nights.
Also your gas and electric are in with this, so if it is cold you don't have to worry.
Stanwix Park in Silloth also coming up for that weekend. There are no 3 bedroom caravan's just 2 bedrooms with a pull out in the lounge.
Lots to do swimming pool, entertainment etc...This is £174.
I can also recommend a farmer called Mr Benn who has 2 caravans in Mungrisdale which is 8 miles from Keswick and 8 miles from Penrith.
He has 2 caravans in a field, next to his farm, lots of space for the kids to play, the field is gated with cows, and sheep in the other fields.
Its very peaceful and the caravans are well kept.
It is a bit in the middle of know where, no shops or pubs in walking distance. But very nice if you have small children.
He charges £30 per caravan per night.
Telephone Number is 017684 84544.
Hope this helps:beer:0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies, last time I went on hoseasons I didnt seem to have any luck, although I was mostly looking at parks rather than cottages. Im not sure what I was doing wrong but think I have finally found a lovely cottage for six people and way under budget. Thank you all I really love this site xxI hope that my child, looking back on today
