Help! Comet won't refund faulty satnav

Ha! i love this thread. Keep it coming OP because a lot of these posts are laughable and i have the hiccups!
Accept a repair, as you should and get it over with, stop trying to bully them into something they dont have to do. Oh and try thanking people on here for advising you correctly, even if you do stubbornly refuse to accept their correct advice.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I have the same Navman, excellent sat nav. Mine did work perfectly for about 5 months, then died from a "critical error". quick call to navman, returned at their cost, (they sent a prepaid label next day), about 4 days later I got it back, and so far it's been fine for the few years since.
Speed cameras beep all the time, it's not a paid for feature, gives traffic warnings as well, and european maps are spot on.0 -

There you go op. Thats what us normal people who just want something sorted without the need to bang on about rights! We get stuff done quickly, it's out the way, and we carry on with our lives.
The funny thing is you read on here phrases from the consumer rights brigade like "well they just have you lot bent over a barrel". I have actually read that on here. I'll as you though, whilst I can get things sorted in 4 days/hours like the above poster, it usually takes most of the "consumer rights" lot about 4 months to accomplish exactly the same thing! Who is it then who really gets the better service!!!!!0 -
Hi Comet representative Phil.
Unfortunately, the reply is unhelpful in the respect that I have been sold a faulty product which one of the major faults (the M25 bug) didn't come to light until using the satnav for a period of time.
I do not accept that the unit needs to be sent away. The fault is demonstrable and obviously there. I can set a route and show the bug, causing the satnav to ignore a section of the M25.
Many of the other faults, I culd live with, but if the machine ignores part of such a major motorway, short of doing a test drive all over the country, how am I to know what other bugs for future journeys will be present?
Unfortunately, this satnav comes with no connection kit for the internet. The supplied cd is simply a pdf manual.
I could purchase a connection kit, but since this satnav is supplied without such a kit and should work out of the box, without further intervention, The suggestion to download an update is just not sensible in this case.
I have actually checked the website and no download is available for the F45 model anyway!
So, Comet have sold me a faulty product. Due to the nature of the item, the fault described would only become noticed after a period of time since the bug only came to light after visiting that section of the motorway. Therefore, the 28 day period is completely irrelevant since the fault would not necessarily be noticed for some considerable time. Maybe this fault would only be found when the user travels on their summer holiday for instance.
Therefore, I believe Comet are ducking their responsibility under the SOGA.
Comet are interpreting the SOGA to suit them. I do not accept this and am this week planning to get trading standards involved.
For Pete's sake, you've sold me a duff satnav, I can show it is faulty, JUST CHANGE THE THING!!
Of course, Comet would rather I have to go round the houses to sort out a problem that could be solved in 10 seconds flat.
I will keep you all posted on what happens!
Watch this space!!
My original response was regarding the Navman F40 model as this is the model you mentioned in your original post. However, if your model is the F45 then you may still be able to resolve the M25 issue by changing the routing preferences in the sat nav's settings to 'prefer motorways.' Unfortunately, after speaking with Navman they advised that there aren't currently any updates available to download for this model.
In order to resolve the other issues you are having, I would respectfully request that you return the sat nav to your local store so that it can be booked in for inspection with Navman. Again, if a repair cannot be carried out, an exchange would be authorised for you.
I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Thanks
