MSE News: Capital One launches Amex alternative cashback credit card
Capital One launches Amex alternative cashback credit card

It seems a better deal than the (new) Egg Money - due to the lower net annual cost.
However, some existing Capital One customers still get 1% cashback with no annual fee.. and a few like my father get 1% cashback + £10/year with no annual fee!
'Capital One launches Amex alternative cashback credit card' is a terrible headline though - it makes it sound as if Capital One has launched some form of alternative Amex card and not a Mastercard..

Why is it Amex alternative? The features of Cap1 cashback card are more similar to Egg Money World Mastercard.:think:0

Thought Amex was an Amercian Express Logo?0

Yep that's what I've got. Been on CapitalOne 1% since about 2007 'ish when it popped into Martin's recommendations. A few months ago they sent a letter saying they were also going to give me a tenner a year. Just got the extra tenner this month. Brilliant, with no annual fee. If they do try and sting me for the annual fee I'd probably switch back to my other cashback card.
There also didn't used to be a requirement to be a home owner.'Capital One launches Amex alternative cashback credit card' is a terrible headline though - it makes it sound as if Capital One has launched some form of alternative Amex card and not a Mastercard..
Exactly what I thought, which is why I originally read the article. I thought it was a bit unusual to have a non-Amex Amex card

We had a cap one credit card and havent used the card for about 18 months,
did all the cap one credit cards offer cashback? as we only used it to tart our balance onto their 0% offer
I had my amex card through yesturday.... and yep went to insure my 2 vans using the card and they wouldnt except it, so it would be nice to have an alternative cashback card, just for that reason,
the actual cap one credit card expired 11/09 so do you think its worth us phoning tomorrow to see if the account is just dormant or closed?Work to live= not live to work0 -
That is the one I have, a much better deal than the new one :money:....... and a few like my father get 1% cashback + £10/year with no annual fee!Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

No, only certain ones offered at specific times. It'll say on your statement if you get cashback. It gives the total accumulated each month.0 -

thanks bonzer, i think we prob didnt have the cashback credit card then, we didnt spend on it, purely used it for the 0% transfer offer,
I think i will still phone them up and see if our card is dormant or closed, if dormant, will see if we can change it to the cashback one...Work to live= not live to work0 -
hi.. just closed domant credit card, as it wasnt the cashback one,
going to apply on-line for the new cashback card...
I know this is slightly off topic.... but
i had an amex card through this week to take advantage of the 5% and hopefully have the cap one cc to use in places where the amex is not excepted... after the year is up with amex, unless another deal with another credit card comes along... then the cap one is the one to use all the time yes? and close the amex oneWork to live= not live to work0 -
A plus with my Cap1, which I assume will apply to this as well, is the free Equifax credit reports along with e-mail alerts to any changes or searches on your credit file. The cashback is 1% of the total bill spend rounded correctly ie £866.66 will get £8.67 casback. My MBNA only gives casback on each transaction rounded down to the pound.
