To be sanctioned the employment prior to the claim must be employed earners employment. It is not possible to be sanctioned for ending self employment.

Is there anything i need to state when i go to the JC that will help me as i dont want to go in and say i have been self emplyoed and they turn round and say i cannot claim as a couple with my partner next week as her Contribution Based JSA runs out.

I have only been running the company from June and only had a few call outs and from my small accounts log i keep i have 0 profit on the account and no money left in the business account.

  • I am a little confused. So will i be ok as JSA income based

It means if you are self employed, end your self employment and subsequently claim JSA you cannot be sanctioned under LV regs
  • OK which means they cannot refuse my application for Income Based JSA then.

    But

If i was Emplyoed with a company and left and tried to claim JSA they would have Sanctoned and not give me JSA.

  • chris if you were employed by a company and just left, you would have made yourself unemployed voluntarily and so would not be able to get jsa.
you are saying that isnt the case tho, so why worry? you were self employed , you had no work coming in so are ceasing self employment and closing the business, so you will be able to claim jsa.
i closed my business down for similar reason last december and went onto jsa with no problem. mine was income based as id been self employed for 7 years, i dont know whether yours will be income based or cont based, but there wont be a problem claimimg.
all you have to do is go in and tell them the truth.

  • Going to visit JC tommrow and its my GF's signing off date also. So going to see if we can sign on as a couple and fill the forms out tommrow. Taking my business bank account statements and account sheet with me to prove i did not have any incoming from the business.

Is there anything else i will need to take or show to them.

I have informed the Working Tax Credit and Tax Office that my Business will be ending on Tue so i guest when i sign on i put Wed down as the first date

  • Can anyone tell me how long our new claim should take. We gave in the forms and visited the JC on 14th and it was the day that i got my new JS signing book etc. We put in a claim for a couple for Income Based JSA but have not heard anything back yet as in a letter etc.
