Warning to Bootsers (please merge with existing thread)

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=248286

i urge all boots tarts to read the above and spend all points asap!!

A nasty experience freebie_junkie. And, I think Boots would be really silly to follow that course of action.
I've been following the ethics debate on here with regard to Boots and the Tesco R&R policy. Basically, I think whatever cash they lose to us in R&R and glitches, they more than compensate for in free widespread publicity & the sheer buzz and excitement that has attached itself to their brands as a result of the attention we now all pay to them. You simply can't buy that kind of Marketing and PR buzz and activity - it's priceless!
Many of us will admit that's why we go into these stores so often & what do we do when we're there - spend money! We talk about them a lot also & that keeps the brand at the forefront of everyone's mind.
In today's highly competitive retail market-place - this is exactly the sort of thing that separates Boots from Superdrug and Tesco from Asda etc.
I don't know if it was a deliberate policy, but if I was their Marketing Manager I'd be dropping in the odd glitch to keep my brand alive.
SA's with a face like a slapped a***, who seem to think they're paying us out of their own money and Managers who accuse us of fraud, have the complete opposite effect and will ruin the affection in which we currently hold these brands if they're not careful.
So for anyone who is feeling guilty - just remember you're helping to create brand awareness for them, on a huge scale - free!

You may not be far off the mark there. Since I've been following this thread, maybe just over a year on and off, I've noticed that items where there was a huge points glitch were discontinued or revamped shortly after the glitch. The EI for instance, I'm sure that somebody said recently it was being discontinued. The Little Me sets ... Have never seen them being sold for full price since, they always seem to be reduced in the few places you can find them now. The vouchers too - Daniel Ryman and Time Delay, a lot of stores seemed to stop stocking or reduced the variety of products it stocked shortly after that glitch! I'm sure there's more, just can't think of them at 3am :o

Point is we all rush off to spend our money and save our points, thereby helping them to clear old and excess stock quickly, keeping the cash flowing through Boots, making their shops look full, advertising the shop with our plastic carriers, etc. And in many cases we'll keep going back to spend more money and save more points so that we can get enough points for a larger purchase.

Sometimes I think that Boots are getting one over on us, not the other way around. :rotfl:
  • i couldnt agree more but apparently boots arent seeing it that way, im so hurt by it all coz ive been an ad card holder since 1998 and a tart for 2 years but theyre not gettign another openny outta me, i work at tj huges and get a 20% discount, im gonna shop there and other places taht stock stuff i liek instead (in fact i feel a bit liberated coz afetr trying some body shop samples i wanted to have a go at teh aloe range but i didnt wanna miss out on ad points!- i can however be a body shop tart using their loyalty card!!!) im also gonna pay more mind to tesco glitches and extra points on beauty bits which i ignored before in favour of boots. i think that peopel from ho must read these forums and i dont think tehy want our custom any more, well theyre not having mine and my fellas at least and all the tarts are spending up their points this week too.

  • i suggest that tarts stop all non-loophoel spending in boots, buy your nappies, make-up, toiletries etc. elsewhere unless youre getting it free (like teh td loophole) and take all teh freebies (perufme samples, beauty counter samples, goodie bags at teh shopping evenings etc.) but spend none of your cash, then boots will know that they needed us tarts all along!

    Thanks FJ.
I must admit I was a little suspicious when I called boots last week after I had problems getting validated reciept points added to my card.
I was passed straight to a manager and she said they would check the cctv, which seemed a little extreme over a few points which I was entitled to anyway.
Fair enough I have complained to boots a few times recently, but it has all been for valid reasons.
I'm waiting for her to call me back today so will let you know how it goes.

  • me too, id never complain without just cause but on teh other hand i always do complain when ive been wronged, in my opinion that doesnt make me a bad consumer, im helping teh cs by highlighting problems with staff and with certain products (ie ones marked 'hypoallergenic' and 'foe sensitive skin' which induce rashes!) the woman i spoke to at cs told me (outta teh blue, i hadnt asked for anything except an apology from the manager in question which was refued as it would 'emabrras' her- aw poor love- liek she didnt emabrras me!!) 'i dont think a giftcard woudl be appropriate...youve had them before...what would it achieve?' (may eb a little paraphrased but thats how i remeber it!) i think theyve shot themselves in teh foot with that as a small token of apology might have dissuaded me from taking the course of action i and my partner has and that im urging all oteht tarts to do, if me and my oh spend £900 pa, i wonder how much we all do? hit them where it hurts i say, if tehy dont want us then so be it!!!

  • Hi I've read this thread and it confuses me that Boots can give you vouchers to gain extra advantage points, give you vouchers for free items and then acuse anyone of fraud???? I've been saving my points up and have ab out £30 worth now and I've been into Boots three times this week after reading the Grabit Thread and got myself some brilliant sale items for Christmas presents. I've only just learned about getting vouchers out of the Advantage card machine, I've had a card for years and didn't know so I've been really pleased this week to pick up a freebie. Have I done anything wrong that could possibly be called fraud??? I'd write to Boots and complain about that if I were you it's just ridiculous to threaten customers who use their offers - don't others agree? Or am I missing something?

(Sorry fairly new to posting on here - take care)
