remember to chop the sharp ends off the cocktail sticks first though.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

As well as the things above i make fruit kebabs. Push grapes, strawberries and melon cubes onto a straw, (much safer than a cocktail stick) they go down really well. For the adults i just do cheese and biscuits and smoked salmon pate on oatcakes. Make the pate with value salmon trimmings, soft cheese and teaspoon of horseradish and juice of half a lemon.0

HUndreds of fairy cakes - a big bowl of butter icing and half a dozen bowls with wee sweeties inside (smarties, jelly tots, gummy bears)
3 year olds feel so grown up as you slather a cake in icing and let them decorate "their own" mini birthday cake. Easier for them to eat (outside preferably) than a bigger cake too. I just give them a slice in a napkin to take home of the proper birthday cake. Arm yourself with a warm flannel for the sticky faces and hands - cute photo op there :-)
PS DEcorating them keeps most of us mummies occupied too (Ehm!! thats why you need hundreds - YUM)

Get a biscuit cutter in a shape your child likes, then cut all sandwiches with this, looks great, did this a halloween party with bat cutter, just adds that finishing touch.
How about serving each child a mini picnic in a bucket and spade!! It is ment to be summer after all, saves making loads of trays full of food, just make one for each child, i wouldnt offer food for parents just cuppa and some biscuits.
Iv done this in past and never had a bad comment the party is for the kids after all.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
I always worry about grapes choking little ones, my youngest is 5 and I still chop grapes in half before giving them to him - maybe you could do this before pushing the straws through (as previous post).
Bear in mind you don't want the children to get too messy so avoid kitkats or other chocolate! Instead go for something like the lovely little animal biscuits I found in Waitrose (currently on offer at 59p for an enormous pack of zoo animals biccies, really tasty, all my 4 kids like them. Think they are called 'Zoo' biscuits by Leibniz or something, yellow packet!). Saves making them!
Don't go overboard on the sandwiches, many children will home in on the sausages/pizza/crisps only.....:DPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I recently helped my sister organise a 6th birthday party for my neice.
She took 11 kids to the zoo (my baby was ill on the day so we couldn't make it which was a real shame).
I got party bags and fillers on EBay each item having a jungle theme.
I got brown paper bags (ebay) for a packed lunch each and decorated each one with the childs name, and stickers and glitter and a different wild animal on each (these were a huge hit, my sister had to take them all in to school on the Monday as the kids loved them).
We cut sandwiches out in the shape of elephants.
I suggested playing the obligatory 'sleeping lions'.
We had a small prize for the best behaved boy and girl also.
I think that the zoo was too big to take everyone around and keep everyone happy, I am pretty sure the kids would have been happy at the local playground.
We didn't spend much money in addition to the tickets.[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

Boredom Buster - Some great ideas there - I thought I had heard every idea with 3 kids and the eldest now being 13 (so many parties). I am now trying to persuade my soon to be 8 year old to have a Superhero party. thanks.0

I know how time consuming it can be to put together party bags.
Have you ever considered someone else doing that for you?
Girls and Boys bags available. All you do is add the cake!0
