Tips on how to get surveyor to call us back?!

One thing my friend does if she cant find someone by Googling them, is to Facebook them. Not sure how appropriate that would be in this case though!!!0

Haha! Tia good idea - unfortunately we only have an initial, no first name for him!
Bufger - the vendors weren't there when the surveyor came round, the EA was there instead. Or at least I've assumed that, as he couldn't get access to the garage, or check the window locks worked, or work out where the stopcock was, but maybe he just didn't bother asking the vendors!
We were round at the property today, talking to a builder and measuring up. THe vendor was there, she is very nice and helpful! It really seems that the survey wasn't done that well. I have no clue what he means about the boundaries, the fences are dead straight, as on the LR title plan. The ceilings, which he said were probably artex, are clearly not. In one bedroom, it is quite clearly either textured wallpaper (i know, on the ceiling!) or more likely lining paper painted over with a rag roller or something - you can see the paper lines clearly, which you couldn't if it had something as thick as artex over it. In another bedroom it is clearly just paint, as the slight texturing is so faint and most likely again achieved with a rag roller. At any rate I asked the vendor about it and she said "well we did the ceilings about 2 years ago, so it definitely doesn't have asbestos in!"
He told us "there appears to be no ventilation from the chimney breast in the front bedroom". It would have been more accurate to say "I couldn't check if there was venting from the chimney breast, as it is surrounded by furniture". The vendor pulled the bedside table away from the wall and there it was.
ARGH i know they are supposed to be cautious and pessimistic but so many things he has clearly taken the easiest route with.
Anyway we are feeling happier that we have cleared most things up with the vendor and the builder, no need to keep hassling the surveyor really for now, but will probably keep on him for a little while and then will send a complaining letter once we're finished this.0 -
Glad you are feeling a bit calmer about things now!0

Hi morg_monster
I know you worte that you'd chatted to the vendor and felt a lot happier about things now but I wondered if you still chased the surveyor? You said that your OH was going to start the down the complaints route if you hadnt heard by Friday.0 -
Hi morg_monster
Having found your thread this morning, I was very interested as I am having similar problems with e.surv. My experience is that e.surv are not a big company, they seem to be a company with a large call centre that franchise the name and get local surveyors to do the donkey work on their behalf. That may be why you can't get hold of your surveyor. In our case the report was done by e.surv (Wolverhampton) and a quick Google for “e.surv Wolverhampton” came up with a website called surveyorsfinder.co.uk which gave us addresses and telephone numbers for the local office. Hope that you have better luck with e.surv than we have so far.0 -
E surve - that's who's coming to do a structural survey on our house next Tuesday - has taken four weeks for them to come (we were starting to get worried; the survey on the house we are buying -homebuyers, and it's an older house than our current one - was done within a week of the offer being accepted).
If there are any problems or issues, it sounds like it will be ages before they clarify things for our buyers - oh well, won't be moving this side of Christmas.0 -
was surprised to see this thread appear again!
Tweekie that is very interesting and will see if I can do some digging.
MoneyMoose, hopefully your branch will be better than ours. We took a pragmatic view in the end, got a builder round to comment on things, did some internet research and asked friends, and as I said went back round to the house again ourselves to answer some questions. We really wanted the house and there was nothing TOO bad there, so we went for it regardless but if your buyers are a bit nervous it might take a while. I hope not though.0
