House insurance renewal just arrived

Just received my house insurance renewal from Esure £145.

I thought this was quite low as I had made a claim in May 2009 due to a lightning strike on a neighbours house that caused a power surge killing my TV, Sky box and surround sound system.

The renewal notice states that I have made no claims in the past 3 years but then lists the claim from May 2009 but has a value of £0 against the claim.

Do insurers normally get these kind of things wrong on a renewal notice? Doesn't fill me with confidence!

Why not? Did they sort the claim out to your satisfaction?

Yes it was all sorted out very quickly but they've given me a years no claims discount and then listed my claim on the form incorrectly, just makes me think what else can they get wrong.

Maybe they subrogated? Maybe you have no idea? If you're that worried, ring them up and tell them.

    It's not brain science.
  • i did mine with e sure this year was with lloyds before had to make a claim last year and mine with lloyds went up to £270 so i looked around and went with esure and got it for £152 and got £45 cashback so i think it is prob right

Quote - what are you on about? No claim could be made against the neighbour under subrogation rights for damage resulting from a lightning strike.

The neighbour has not been negligent.
  • When was the claim finalised?

If it was delayed then it May show at your next renewal.

Do you have protected no claims?

Again this means your premium is not affected if you make a certain amount of claims in any one year.

If you are concerned give them a call.

What does negligence have to do with it?

Do you know what subrogated means?

To pursue another party in the policyholders name if a right of recovery exists under English law (or Scottish north of the border). The claim would need to be brought under the tort of negligence.

To suggest the insurer may have subrogated against the neighbour whose house was struck by lightning is plain wrong.
