  • I wonder how they selected the suppliers/distributers ? The only one near me is not on a bus route and means a 15 min. walk up and down hill to reach a bus to get your tree home ! I'd love a Silver Birch.

Jollyanna - perhaps you could post a message on your freecycle board or similar? Last year, I collected trees for 4 other people, as I was going anyway in the car and they didn't have transport. As long as they request their own trees, the Council were perfectly happy with this in Gloucester.

oh - and also, the trees are not massive trees - they are saplings so not heavy to carry anyway. Some of the trees are more robust and so they are bigger - but they are just taller - not massive great tree trunks!!

Thanks for this. We have recently had to have a tree removed from our garden- a beautiful, semi mature ,pink conker tree- as the limbs had died back and it became unsafe.

This would be a lovely way to replace it.

I have read the blurb but can't find when the trees are being given out. Is there a starting date/time please?

    TIA

Focus DIY in Newtown, Powys, Mid Wales have a stock of 300 to giveaway as of tomorrow according to the shop assistant yesterday. First come, first served. You dont need to bring any ID apparently, but it's 1 per household. Unsure how they can actually monitor that! You just present yourself and ask for your free tree. Bearing in mind the Breathing Places website says "over 1000 to giveaway", I would think that they have considerably more than 1000 to give away. If that makes sense..!?

I think it depends where you are - in Gloucester, it is the City Council who are organising it (but then, they have organised it for the last few years - not just in relation to tree o clock) - worth looking at the website for your local council and just put "Free trees" into their search bit.

Actually - just read the blurb myself and if you click on your area on the BBC page, it tells you where trees are being given away - and then you can contact them and find out when you can collect the tree!

  • They had hundreds of these piled up at my local Homebase. I took a silver Birch.

Didn't notice anyone else take one or have one in their basket/ trolley. So I think they're going to be left with about 80% of these tree saplings after the 5th of December.

Perhaps they should have placed them closer to the main entrance as not many people were venturing outside.
