hello, can a bank cancel my direct debit and not tell me?

    its unusauk but depends upon the circumstances

    How long since it was used? DDs that are unused for 12 months normally 'drop off' the account and need to be reinstated.

    I thought it was 13 months, to prevent yearly subscriptions getting lost?

    Q What is a dormancy period?

    A All banks hold details of Direct Debit Instructions on file for a minimum period of 13 months from lodgement of the Direct Debit Instruction, in the event of no collections, or from the date of the last payment.

    Is it because it had been bounced a number of times? some banks will cancel d/d if they believe you will be unable to meet future payments.
