thanks for such a quick response
however at the sound of looking thick
I'm trying to install crapcleaner & avg
both get the same message as already mentioned

Thanks again0 -
linux doesnt need any security software.
if you really want, you might be able to install a firewall but i cant be sure as i dont know what linux distro the aspire one runs0 -
Generally, linux boxes are considerably less vulnerable to viruses which are written in the most part for windows. Most of the antivirus products for linux do not do the job you want - they are intended to run on linux boxes providing services to windows networks and to protect the windows network boxes from windows viruses. These products do not actually protect the linux box they run on!
The linux philosophy is different - basically the software is less vulnerable - and when a vulnerability is discovered, a software patch is usually written quite quickly. So you just need to keep your software updated on line.
And the other big thing is only to log on as root [the adminstration user] when you are actually installing, managing or removing software. At all other times, log on as an ordinary user - it is the only way you should work with a Linux box.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. avg and crapcleaner are windows software - they won't work at all on linux. you don't really need anti-virus on linux anyway, unless you're planning on trying to get a virus.0
