Car Insurance: NCD & Accidents with named drivers - I'm confused!

Hi all, I need to understand how to fill out car insurance quote forms. Both me and my wife soon need to renew our car insurance. We have two cars. One is insurance with her as policy holder, the other with me as policy holder.

I had an accident in her car on her policy. The insurance company said I was at fault (I didn't agree with them but that's beside the point!)

Before this accident when I started my current insurance I had 2 years NCD, I have never had a claim but I only had insurance for 2 years after a break from owning my own car.

When I am submitting information to get a car insurance quote for myself I am asked as the insurance holder how many years NCD I have. I assume I put 3. Is that correct because it was not me or my insurance claimed on?

Then I am asked "Any motor insurance claims (including not at fault claims)?" - what do I answer? I assume 'No' because I didn't claim on my insurance and it is not asking about accidents.

I then add my wife as a named driver. It doesn't ask about NCD but asks "Any motor insurance claims (including not at fault claims)?" to which I answer 'Yes'. Then it asks for details and I choose 'Accident, at fault'. Then it asks if the NCD is affected and I say 'yes'. Am I answering this correctly?

So then in a few weeks my wife wants to get car insurance. I got though all the above but in reverse!!

Please can anyone explain who is affected by what!!!

Thanks
Ian

    1) Your NCD isn't affected by the claim made on your wife's policy

    2) You need to declare the claim/loss as part of your history

    3) If you are remaining as a named driver on your wife's policy, then again just you declare the claim/loss as part of your history.
