Winter fuel allowance

All those who don`t want heating allowance needn`t claim it.
If anything should be means tested (although I`m not in favour of means testing) it should be child benefit.0 -
Isn't the answer down to the usual problem with means testing - which is that it discourages people from saving and being self reliant?0
-
It's so little anyway - they give more away to new born babies for savings. If it's means tested then those that don't claim (but could have) won't get it.
I think leave it going.0 -

If you are getting a State Pension or certain other benefits you don't have to claim its automatically sent to the same bank account...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Do you have any figures for that? In our top heavy (agewise) society I'd have thought a lot more people get these payments (which they get annualy, not just a one off) than get CTFs etc.
Personally I think this should be scrapped for younger pensioners, and just kept for 75+ or later. 60 isn't old really these days + most people this age had an opportunity to save for their retirement. I got a lovely warm coat from Primark once for £6, if I couldn't afford my heating I'd just get another one.0 -

It's a winter fuel allowance, not a heating allowance. A new coat won't roast my Sunday joint. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
