Hi all,

I was hoping some kitchen experts could provide a list of the best (in your opinion of course) kitchen appliances in terms of quality, lifespan and guarantee.

As someone else said on another thread - having a recognised name doesn't necessarily mean they're good. I've heard Bosch and Neff are the top two manufacturers. Would experts agree?

We've had Bosch (and AEG) for years, I personally prefer Bosch, but just because I like the design. Touching wood, we've never had a Bosch applicance fail and my parents also have some Bosch gear too.

I'd add Miele to the mix too, these are another high quality brand.

When we replace our kitchen we'll probably have a Bosch or Neff cooker, we already have all the other top end applicanced, but at moment are suffering with a very lowly cooker!

There are plenty I'd avoid, but I'm not going to post and inflame those with them!

Miele i hear are the best , but cost bucks and last i checked a few years back you couldn't get many built in if any models

Then Bosch, Neff , look great stainless steel , solid. My flat came decked out in Neff and touch wood all of it still works very well no problems.

Cheaper is Hotpoint.

For washing machines, LG they don't look the best but i have had one for 7 years, huge wash loads. Very efficent and quiet.

All my own opinion of course.

at the top end the german names are very good, but you pay for the privilege.
value for money? ive had no real problems with any indesits.

has anyone got any experience with Beko? Are they any good or is it a case of cheap with lots of headache?

My top ten(ish) :

Miele
V-ZUG
Liebherr (refrigeration)
ISE (free standing washing machines)
Elica (cooker hoods)
KitchenAid
Bosch, Neff, Siemens (all BSH Group)
AEG-Electrolux
Rangemaster (range cookers)
Fisher & Paykel

OK ... I know that's more than 10 ... but a lot of the Bosch/Neff/Siemens models aren't really different from each other. Same for AEG/Electrolux ... and some of my favourites don't make a wide range of appliances.

The disadvantage of good quality is, of course, high price. In the less expensive price ranges ... I quite like Hotpoint (of the Indesit group), Stoves (Glen Dimplex group), CDA, Whirlpool (their branded stuff - not what they make for other people) and Gorenje.

Of the cheaper brands, I'd probably look at Fagor and Beko ... especially if you can get a five year guarantee ... but would check the reviews, for the particular model I was thinking of, first.

Oh ... and Belling (Glen Dimplex Group again) ... have just had a big re-launch. They claim that they've dramatically improved their quality ... and that the GDH Group is the last truly British manufacturer (for cookers, ovens and hobs).

Hmmm dunno about a top ten, but for the best in each category:

Refrigeration - Liebherr or Sub Zero
Washing - Miele
Cooker hoods - Elica
Cooking - Gaggenau or Wolfe

Not sure if I completely agree!

Refrigeration - Yep Subzero but seriously expensive.
Gaggenau do some very nice Subzero competion
Liebeherr and Miele for refrigeration you can't beat for normal people and applications.

Laundry - Yep no question Miele, always have been and always will be the best.

Dishwasher - Again Miele, 'no brainer'.

Cooking - Gaggenau if money no object.
Miele is virtually as good with a slightly more respectable price tag.

Steam oven & Coffee Machines - Miele far supperior than any other brand including Gaggenau.

Cooker hoods - Very subjective as what it looks like tends to be more important, but if we are talking pure quality then it would have to be Gutmann, everyone hand built to customers specification in Germany.
