MSc Dissertation - Please help!

Hi

Im a student at the University of Central Lancs. Im doing an MSc in Psychology at the moment. For my dissertation im doing a study on ethnic identity and attitudes towards alcohol. Its on a online survey and I need a a big sample of participants from the ethnic groups being studied. I would be extremely grateful if you could take part in the study.

The link to the study is:

It should take 10 minutes max to fill it in.

Thank you

i started filling it out but i feel the survey is poorly constructed, there are lots of questions about the amount you drink that are simply logically impossible to answer if you don't drink, and there is no indication whether a particular section can be skipped (e.g. if you choose "no", please ignore questions xx to xx).
  • Did if for you I am at UCLAN too :D

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has filled this in for me, I nearly have the sample I need, and wouldn't have been able to do it without the people from MSE filling it in. So a big thanks for you time and effort.

All three questionairres I've used are validated and reliable, I havent made any of them up but ive used already published ones. At the top of the second one it says you don't have to fill it in if you don't drink you can just go onto the next one. But even if you did fill it in the way it is scored is that the lowest answer ie. never/ 1-2 etc. is scored as (or equal to) 0 so it wouldn't affect it anyway when im analysing it. The third one which is the attitude one is probably the weakest of the three. Its an old scale and ive changed the wording as best i could to update it abit but couldnt change it too much. There arent really any other scales which measure attitudes towards alcohol. The one ive used despite the wording etc of the questions has been measured by other people and found to be reliable and valid. i.e. it measured accurately what its suppose to measure. Its your overall score that counts on it. I hope that helps to clarify it abit!

fair enough, i missed the message at the top of the second page, but it's the third page that is impossible to answer. it seems there are two types of questions in this section: attitudes to my own alcohol consumption, and attitudes to the alcohol consumption of others. so why not separate them into sections, such that a drinker needs to answer both sections, while a non-drinker only the "attitudes about others' drinking"?

how is a non-drinker supposed to answer a question like "I intend not to drink when I have to drive.?" i don't intend to drink at all. it has nothing to do with driving!

i've completed it anyway, even if it is logically and methodologically flawed...

The third questionnaire measures 3 constructs. 18 questions measure each of the sections. I know what your saying. It has questions which are focused on ppl who dont drink like "its good to refrain from drinking" and then questions which anyone who doesnt drink cant answer. Its a confusing scale and the scoring is even worse because alot of the items are reverse scored. But its your overall score that counts so even those questions which are for drinkers a person who is more negative about drinking would pick the opposite to someone who is positive about it, if that makes sense. So in the end you will end up with people with positive attitudes with higher scores and people with more negative attitudes with lower scores. Then im going to compare between the different groups if there is a difference.

Thank you for filling it in, i know its a bit confusing!
  • I filled it out for you. Good luck with your dissertation!
