I have had a call at 16:22 today asking for me by my Surname only and when I confirmed it was me speaking, the caller said he was ringing about Sky equipment protection (or whatever its called). Curiously, I asked him again who he was wanting to speak to as I found it weird he had asked for me - Iam NOT a Sky Account holder !!! When he again asked for me, I asked him why he was asking for me when I didnt have a Sky Account -(account is in my partners name only). I then asked him for his phone number and name and I would call him back to discuss what he had rung for - he hung up.
I have rung Sky Accounts to ask them if there was any possible way that this guy would have my name as the only connection I have to the account is as an additional email address on the main account. They said no, and that anything to do with the equipment breakdown payment thing, is done via Domestic General. Sky Account guy gave me DG phone number and we have just rung them to enquire. DG have said that they ONLY deal with INCOMING calls and that call did not come from them. They have had a number of calls regarding this and have passed it onto Trading Standards. Apparently, all they need to make these scamming calls, is a mailing list.
What annoys me is if the guy had rung and asked for my partner (who is the account holder), my partner may very well have been suckered into listening to this guy, and worse still taking out some kind of bogus plan.
Please, if someone rings and you have an interest in what they are ringing for, take their name and number and call them back. Check the number they give you, against the number on your account etc.
I also apologise if similar has already been posted somewhere - I did spend some time searching but didnt find anything.
BTW, I also told the DG person, I was going to post a warning on Martin Lewis site - the reply was 'thats a good idea'

I had a call today said my package( ??) was cheaper now and that I was going to save £2 a month but they needed to adjust the DD, he quoted my address and name, then gave me the first 4 digits of the card connected to the account the DD is debited from. Apparently the majority of cards have the same first four numbers!! He then asked me for the rest of the card number to which I told him where to go and that they should send me a form to sign if they wanted to change the amount of the DD. We don't have any cover on our sky anyway. He was definitely trying to trick me into believing he was talking about Sky TV packages and not warranty cover.
I've since phoned sky to check it wasn't them and to inform them but they didn't want to know quite honestly. He said his name was Daniel and his number was 08712344644 if I wanted to check but I still wouldn't give him the card number!!Big Thanks to all who post on the comps board0 -
thanks for the heads up on this:beer:I

Have you done an online or telephone survey where you gave your name and were asked questions about Sky?
The other possibility is that they pick your name from the phonebook and just 'guess' you have Sky!0 -

Not that I know of but thats a good possibility. I havent had a phone number under my name in the phone book.
The Domestic General person said that Iam probably on a mailing list as I have a O2 account and have purchased via internet from other companies etc.'Normal' is a dryer setting.0 -
