In all honesty I wouldn't be able to offer a 52 week a year commitment to posting these comps specifically.Rightly or wrongly I just saw them as a competition to post and not allied to a certain member.
I appreciate that there are certain comps that are generally posted by specific members such as the ITV ones that Catowen posts and the magazine comps that Korkykat etc.I have never considered posting these as they are very much more knowledge based and are not fully posted up to enter as are most comps.
Whilst browsing the internet if a comp has come to my attention I've searched and posted it up if I couldn't find it on search.Maybe this is the wrong approach but I felt somewhatt vindicated in my method after MSE Andrea posted regarding certain members having "ownership" over certain competitions.Obviously if you can offer a a greater commitment to posting the Fabulous comps I would be as well to leave them to you.

well, i might be wrong in saying this but i wish posters on here would make up their mind, a few weeks ago someone posted that they had been doing such & such comps for ages & then someone came along & started posting them instead, there was a big fuss made in comps disc. about it, so MSE Andrea posted that no-one had the 'ownership' over comps being posted, a lot of members agreed in comps disc. that anyone could post the comps except for the ITV ones & the mags/postals as they are different, when i said i kind of got used to regular compers posting certain comps & tended to know who the regular posters were i got told in no uncertain terms that anyone can post the main site comps, getting a bit confusing on here what the actual written & unwritten rules are :o

I have been involved in a number of comp forums over the years and this always seems to throw up a problem. Some comps require a special commitment like buying a magazine and the regular posters of these are very generous people :T

I think as long as we dont jump on newbies who post a regular's 'comp' them any arrangement is fine. If Andrea has set an arrangement as outlined by Korky that sounds ok. I hadn't got round to reading it :o

You needn't quote any rules to me hun, I think I know them pretty well. I think this is more a matter of etiquette (but I'm a bit old-fashioned I guess). You've got your eye on the ball, you make a great contribution to the boards, I'm sure you know pretty well who posts what.
We'll probably have to agree to differ on this one. Go ahead and post whatever you like but accept that you might occasionally pee someone off. C'est la vie.
Anyway, time to take my medication ;) Take care x

  • I'm a newbie to the competition board so maybe I shouldn't be putting my oar in as such..... I'd just like to say that the main reason we have this board is to help people be able to easily enter comps which they may otherwise miss and I don't really care if two people post up the same competition. I don't see any need to get terratorial about who posts what. Just so long as they're posted up then they're helping someone!

Sorry to bump but with regards this i had to comment.

The problem with your point - 'I don't really care if two people post up the same competition' is if we have duplicates then people could be entering comps twice, and then disqualifying themselves. Velvet Gloves comping guide is excellent for all newbies (and some older members ) and is well worth a read.

Whilst im here, i will just stick my 2 peneth in - i did think there was a unwritten 'comping etiquette' about regular posters being able to post their comps, there are members on here who obviously spend a lot of time and effort posting for the benefit of everyone here, some even have lists that they check regularly so that they can insure that nothing is missed for us all, however the official rules are if you find a comp you are entitiled to post it, providing you have done the relevant searches first. (I will admit that the ITV ones are a bit different, which is why they are the exception to the rule, because as helpful as the search facility is, you cannot search for something that is being posted at that particular time and as the TV comps are posted as they are shown (except when my computer has thrown a wobbly and its taken a couple of extra minutes :o)they are all but impossible to search for, thereby leaving them to one person saves on a lot of dupes).

So, it is a tricky one - my personal view is to leave regular comps to the regular posters, like me im sure they ask someone else to post if they cant do it at any time - also with the magazine ones people are spending money as well as time to get them on here, and must be incredibly frustrating for a regular poster to have someone else jump in - however, like i said the rules dont state this so if someone does post a comp that is normally posted by someone else, then so be it - i think we should all be greatful for every single comp that is posted :T

Cheers for the comments. As I said I just saw this as a competition that was freely available on the News of the World web site.Maybe, with hindsight and further research,I could have given greater consideration to the fact that the "Fabulous" series of comps had been posted by mj38 for a good few months.
There are sites that I have posted from quite regulary in the past, including competitions that are not internet sourced but are only available in the printed medium. When I've posted these I've always checked for dupes even though I've mainly posted from that source.

Call it informal ettiquette or something else, but I really enjoy seeing familiar names on a regular basis. When I see them, I know what sort of competition will be revealed and I look forward to opening them. I also appreciate the personal commitment involved and welcome it every time.

When I started doing comps on this site, it was a friendly and witty affair. Over the years, I think some of this has been lost and the forum is, in my opinion, the worse for it.

So, how about this? Most of us know who does certain comps. If, for some reason it becomes obvious that the regular comp isn't there then by all means post it with a mention of the regular poster's username.

Some of you may recall awhile back that this happened and there were lots of enquiries as to the poster's wellbeing; it transpired he had been on holiday somewhere and couldn't get onto the internet. He was , I believe, really moved by all of the concern shown.

So, let's all enjoy this bit of fun and understand it's not a crusade. We know that it's a "competition" inside a "competition" to see who can get the latest one posted first (sometimes, I wish I could stay up 'til the wee hours to beat certain posters!).

I hope that people don't get too stressed or they might end up like the man who went to the doctor and said "every time I put my arms up in the air, it hurts". The doctor replied, "don't do it!"
  • Hi,

Anyone can post any competition on here, if it's normally one particular person then that's fine but what we don't want is you guys getting into arguments simply because someone else posted one.

There'll always be newbies to this board, like all boards, and it doesn't give them a very pleasant welcome if they're jumped on just for wanting to tell people about a competition (I'm talking generally, not about this thread in particular).

    Andrea :)
