Maybe the OP is referring to the severe disability premium or the enhanced disability premium (only paid with HRC).
  • can i ask a related question?
If someone who is part of a couple who presently get income support,he get I/B(she doesnt) dla mrc lrm, she gets dla mrc hrm, they get sdp and disability premium...
how will this change(if at all)if or should i say when hes moved to esa?
will they lose money on esa?
if he hasnt worked for some years would he get cb esa or ib esa? and what premiums?

    thanks

From 2011/2 the migration from IB to ESA is due to start, with a completion date of about 2014/5.

The migration appears not to be automatic. To move over to ESA, the ESA medical called WCA may well be applied first to those on IB/IS.

If you pass the WCA- you go onto ESA- but would be unlikely to financialy lose out- something called transitional protection. If you don't pass the WCA- JSA will be the obvious benefit that you would move onto.

If you pass the WCA, if on IB now, you should move onto ESA(C), and if on IS now, you should move onto ESA(IB).

The rates of IB, IS and ESA should get closer due to the different % in annual uprating which started in April 09- some bits of IB went down- not up.

We on IVB have so called transitional protection but that hasnt stopped the goverment from reducing our benefit, starting last April and this will continue until we are about £1000 a year worse off.

People on IS because they havnt the NI contributions needed to claim IVB arnt losing benefit, only those contributary IVB are, which says it all.

  • Just to expand that question if someone has been on i/b after working for many years, and has claimed for 10 years would they move to esa cont.based or income based?
