Coupons

I'm not sure where to post this but ...

does anybody know which supermarkets accept coupons for shopping even if you haven't bought the product the money is off? And what is their policy on this?

It seems random to me - sometimes they are accepted, sometimes not. Is it worth me collecting them?

Yes its worth collecting them. Asda and Tesco will take them and you dont need to buy the product, although each store has a different policy it seems. You can only try at your local store.

Take a look here in the online discount vouchers forum. There are lots of places to get them, even on Ebay! There are other forums around that will tell you which magazine has a coupon in it or which newspaper etc. Or there are some manufacturers online where you can send off for coupons.

I posted a link today to the Telegraph book of vouchers worth £40. They are selling on Ebay for around £10!

  • I think you're right that each store has it's own policy, maybe it even depends on the cashier you get. Will carry on collecting the coupons anyay - thanks!

Our Asda in Chatham will do it(up to 10% of the cost of the shopping).I just used it for the first time this sunday and the cashier said they had been doing it for years. She did say they wont take other shops vouchers though.

My Tesco changes its mind all the time about coupons, so i don't tend to shop there.

My Asda takes coupons as long as they are in date and the shop stocks the item. I cut them out of magazines, off products etc. I'm not sure if they'd accept internet coupons cos i've never tried.

My local Tesco are exactly the same. It all depends on who serves you, some will take anything that scans and then others will take one or sometimes none. I never know whether I'm coming or going. I prefer Asda, as long as they sell the item, they will take a coupon for it. I'm not sure about internet coupons either. I think I'll have to try that next, I'll just have to go and find some!

The Asda in Minworth Birmingham has a poster up in the entrance foyer saying they accept Sainsburys coupons, although I have never tries it because I dont get Sainsbury coupons anyway
  • That's good to know about Asda. No good to me now - had coupons that expired today and both Sainsbury and Waitrose wouldn't take them! Would like to know for sure about internet coupons too. Thanks!

My tesco is exactly the same, depends on the cashier. However, when I do get a cashier who will take them, they never bother to check the date. As long as they scan, which they usually do, they take them regardless of the date. Unfortuantely I don't have an Asda anywhere near me.

  • Do you mean even if they are past their expiry date and for a product you haven't bought, the coupons have jstill been accepted? I have a few for 50p off Sanex shower products I was going to throw away - maybe I'll keep them ...

Yep, I must admit I don't use ones with the expired date across the front in big bold letters, but the ones where it is in the small print or on the back seem to go through without any problems. I've had a few coupons, both in & out of date, not scan but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why not, the cashier usually just hands them back to me. It more of a hassle finding a cashier who will take the damn things in the first place!
