Can anyone give me advise on an alternative to the Nationwide Credit card for overseas purchases?
I have applied for the above card, but they have lost my application twice!!!!! Getting fed up with the lack of service!
I am not over 50 so the SAGA card is not an option!
Any advice please?

If you're going to be using the card for overseas transactions primarily, it's probably worth putting up with the lack of service for the moment. Try applying a different method (ie on the internet) and maybe that'll do the trick. In my experience, Nationwide cards are the best if you're doing a lot of overseas stuff since they don't charge commission like most other cards.0

I really would try again with Nationwide as its the only card I know off that offers the foreign transaction feature and depending on how much you spend abroad it can save you a stack off money. How did you apply initially? I applied via the net and had no problems, so that maybe an option if you phoned to apply before....You could always call them again and ask to be put through to an account manager and explain how annoyed you are with their service and you never know they may try extra hard to make sure your third application is successful...0

Liverpool Victoria used to offer similar benefits to Nationwide although I think they are not now as good.
Might be worth checking out if you really object to Nationwide, but as others have Nationwide are by far the best.0 -

Humfer I applied over the phone and was told that they needed to send out some info for me to confirm etc. I waited for a week like the woman said but nothing came in the post.
I phoned on Monday and asked them where the forms were. They could not find them or me on file. Did another application with the woman on the phone. Phoned this morning because i haven't received anything again. Again, they can not tell me where in the 'process' my application is!
Will try your trick about phoning an account manager if I have heard nothing by Tuesday.
I have read and re-read everything that people say about Nationwide and that is why I am so eager to get my hands on a card. But after a while, poor customer service starts to affect ones opinions.
Will have a look at Liverpool Victoria and see what they have to offer. If it wasnt for this darn cruise that we are going on at the end of August I wouldnt even worry!

MissBehaving,
If I was you I'd forget the phone. Call into a branch Mon-Fri and ask them to complete the application for you.
Take along all ID etc, and while you're there ask the branch staff to make a call to the underwriting department to get any additional credit searches removed from your file - leaving just the one search on there.
Good luck.0 -

Audi do a CC without any additional foreign transaction charges. Look under 'Financial Services, Audi Card' on their web site.
Don't know what their exchange rates are.
APRs mentioned, 16.9% typical & 24.9% - shocking.
10% off servicing costs.
60 day price-match guarantee - good.
So its swings and round-abouts.0 -

Just saw Richard's message. Going to see what happens with Nationwide in the next day or two and then will possibly look into contacting Audi. "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0

 Just got a phone call back from Nationwide after calling them AGAIN today!
They have no record of my application and no credit check was done!!! I have to start this whole process over! This time I am going to follow a previous posters advice and go into the branch.
I did ask them if they had done a credit check and the woman said no. Is there anyway that I can check? I just dont want my credit score to be ruined because of something like this. "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0
