I took out a loan with HSBC about 10 years ago which had PPI. When I realised this wasn't compulsory (they told me it was when I took out the loan) I cancelled the PPI. I'm not sure of the exact date of the cancellation of the PPI, although I know it was a number of years later.
This loan has been refinanced a few times over the years (mainly to incorporate my ex-wife's credit card debts - part of the reason she's an ex!!). I still have this loan, so I'm wondering if it would be possible to claim back the PPI?
Obviously I'm very sketchy about the details, so this must be an example of how not to ask a question on this forum, hehe. But general advice would be appreciated.

Yes you can. Send a SAR letter and they will send you all info they hold on you. Send cheque for £10.00 give them 40 days to respond and send recorded delivery. They write a letter saying why you feel it has been miss sold although single premium policy is usually good enough. Use the template letter Martin has provided but write in your own words, if you see what I mean. Send recorded delivery. They have eight weeks to reply, then off to FOS if needed.
Make sure that they are aware that you are claiming back re financed loans and not stand alone loans.

I have asked the bank for all my loan agreements - lets's see what happens.
Also - can I claim for PPI on an old mortgage? (Paid off 6 years ago)0 -
Was it a single premium as i understand from posts by dunstonh that if this was the case then "yes" but If it were a monthly premium he says hereI have asked the bank for all my loan agreements - lets's see what happens.

There is nothing at all wrong with MPPI as a product when its paid on a monthly basis from your current account. So, most of the reasons given for potential mis-sales on PPI wont apply to MPPI.
(Hope you do not mind my quoting you here dunstonh)0
