Ideas for Days-out around London?

Hello

We stay in London and are thinking of doing some 1 or 2 day trips.

Can you please suggest some good places to see, and the best way (train/coach) to get there?

P.S.: We'll prefer seeing natural beauty rather than castles.

Thanks in advance
Ashu

One of the best ways to enjoy London is on foot, get a good pair of walking shoes.

    !!!!!! is all that about?
  • Hyde park - there are some little peddle boats on the serpentine lake for hire. London eye is a great treat and the walk along the riverside from London Bridge to the Tate Modern is lovely - sometimes there are street entertainers around there. Nearby Borough food market has lots to see and taste. You could get a bus pass and go from this area around London to Covent Garden and see some more street entertainers (small donation if they are good is appreciated/expected). These kind of places you can hang out without spending much just soaking the atmosphere up. You could use your pass or walk up either soho or china town into Oxford Street from Covent Garden - there is a little park somewhere behind the shops roughly behind John Lewis for a rest. Buses run from Oxford Street to just about all parts of London - i.e. Portobello Road market or up to St Jame's Park and Green Park.

The best day out is to get the train to Maidenhead, Marlow or Henley and walk along the river to one of these other places. Henley to Marlow or Cookham is the best stretch only because maidenhead means a walk though the town centre. The river is in a wooded valley has locks and nice cafes and pubs on the way

The north downs are a high ridge of forested hills and valleys. Go to Guildford or Dorking - need a map or book of walks. Try to go to Box hill or Leigh hill. From the hills you can see as far as Brighton.

Also West Wickam (bad spelling) in a very nice village with caves and surreal follies and nice hills. Not sure how you get here by train. Probably a bus from High Wycombe station.

You could easily have a nice holiday in Richmond on thames and never leave London at all. The park is natural heathland with deer and ponds. The river walk through Ham lands is very nice and there are more than enough stately homes. Petersham feels like a Yorkshire village. Also boat hire on the river. If it's hot you can swim in the river like Bamber Gasgoine does each day.
