                                  in Credit cards

Following the demise of the SAGA credit card I followed your advice and applied for an Abbey Zero card to use abroad on May 19th. To date no corresponance received although a phone call to their "Apply for a new card by phone" line - the only one ever answered - confirmed the application was approved on the 25th May. When asked for duplicate ageement I was told company policy was all post is sent out 2nd class and I had to wait 10 to 14 days.
I then asked for their complaints department to be offered a postal address followed by an alternative phone number and only when it became clear I wouldn't give up was I transferred to a real person Unfortunately as I didn't have an account I couldn't register a complaint but eventually the very calm young lady agreed to log the complaint but said it would not be responded to as the complaint was against company policy. The fact that it was confirmed no-one was working in the account approval office on the Bank Holiday Monday the proposal was allegedly approved is a mystery but will never be answered as yet another customer bites the dust.
Little wonder the banking sector collapsed.......

The Saga credit card is still up and running - 0% interest for 9 months, no charges for spending in Europe. Applied for an Abbey Zero a couple of days ago, but then read about the horrendous delays people are experiencing, so cancelled the application and went for a Saga one instead. The call centre didn't say it was no longer available. Why do you refer to the 'demise' of the card?

I applied for an Abbey Zero card around the same time and have heard nothing. Why did I even bother? They obviously don't need the custom. Every transaction I have had with Abbey has been rubbish. How do they stay in business?0

I had a very bad experience with Abbey when I applied for the Abbey Zero card in Sep08. It will require a separate thread to discuss the issue in detail.
However I would like to mention that their telephone based complaints procedure did not help me and I ended up using thier online complaints form. This online complaint was taken seriously and Abbey did respond to it, with in 2-3 weeks.
please note that it took about 3 to 4 mail exchanges with the complaints team in order to get them agree to the problem and to get the most severe credit file problem to be rectified.
go to Abbey.com --> contact us --> Feedback and complaints
there is an online complaints page on this page.

Thank your lucky stars that your cards have not turned up. Abbey are totally dishonest and sneaky. Do not apply for an Abbey credit card unless you have the ability to move the balance or pay it off in full at the end of the interest free period. I can say with total conviction, and have the proof that they are basically rip-off merchants.
Twice we have taken advantage of their interest free offers. To quote "Twelve months interest free purchases for twelve months. thereafter reverting to standard APR of 15.9%" Twice they have almost doubled the interest rate as soon as the interest free period ends.
Another thing to be aware of:- payments to the card, however they are made, take 4 working days to be received. This is strange as other cards paid in exactly the same way receive their money in 2 working days maximum.
We were lucky we could get rid of the balance, not everyone is so fortunate. Another thing they do is tell you the interest rate is rising but only state it as a monthly figure not the actual APR. It is IMO a deliberate attempt to catch out the unwary and inexperienced.0

I applied last year 5 months before our hols last year, sent the forms back after they turned up 6 weeks later, 4 or 5 phone calls told me the cards were on the way. Two weeks before the holiday card still hadnt arrived, called again to be told that there was yet another delay and it would be with me within 2 weeks. Got back from the holiday and still no card, called again to be told are you sure all of those people told you the card was in the post as we have cancelled your application because we didnt get the application form back. Complained and received an Abbey pen!!! but still no card.0

Can only agree with the above posts. Abbey are a waste of time. I applied online two weeks ago for the Abbey Zero credit card. I received no response/acknowledgement, so today I rang Customer Services only to be told that the application had been 'declined'. Can see no logical reason for this as I have never had any debts & have always paid off my previous credit cards in full every month. I checked my credit rating online with both Experian & Equifax & all is fine based on the guidance notes. I also calculated my credit rating using the calculator on this website & scored 'Excellent'. So what's the problem ?
My advice.... don't waste your time !0

Like all things Abbey, if you apply in a branch it's very quick - instant yes/no and credit limit on cards
I've long felt that Abbey's branches with friendly and helpful staff are let down by a central structure utilising multiple different systems, which results in a lot of passing the buck and no responsibility ever being taken. Even on the new systems an application made by one method (online, phone, branch) cannot be seen by any other method - so an application made online is effectively in limbo!0
