better fuel efficiency

I'm not sure how accurate this is and how much you save but I've been told that if you drive with your windows shut your fuel efficiency is much greater than if you drive with them open.

Its a bit of a toss up sometimes. If you got air con then your fuel economy reduces by up to 4mpg but this could be gained back with your windows down.
In any case if your live in london I suspect the speed you will be driving wont make any difference. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Remove rear a spoiler as well as the drag it creates makes you use approx 5-10% more fuel i once read.

I wonder at what point people will give up with cars. It seems the price of fuel could be over £1 a litre and the roads would still be packed. The goverment will never cut fuel tax until they see people turing against cars.0

the problem is in the world we live in we feel like we can't do without them.0

since my nearest shop is a 20 mile -ish round trip
I would be a lot thinner and fitter if I didnt have a car wouldnt I
I noticed my fuel recently was being used up at a fast rate of knots couldnt understand it until I opened the boot and found that the old fart had left his two really heavy tool boxes in there plus a large bag of logs!!0 -
Used to have to have the window open to do hand signals!!!!! Never done them since the day I took my test - lets the rain in!!!!0

when on a long trip I always try to keep to around the 56mph which is the optimum speed for most cars and the speed they use to guage the mpg
It really really makes a difference its easier on the car and the driver and you get where your going in almost the same time as you would have done going a lot faster and overtaking etc. I tried this last year and couldnt beleive the difference it made
when I set off the puter in the car said I was getting 39mpg when id made the 200 mile trip there and back it read 48mpg so I was getting about 9 miles extra for my money per gallon,
now when It starts to drop per gallon I go on a run at 56mph and it creeps back up and I save money

thats really interesting to know, will be doing that as much as i can from now on.0

I used to be an impatient bu**r on the roads overtaking and going about 5 miles above the speed limit on the motorway,(just enough to maybe get away witha warning if i got stopped) until I tried this and found I got there just as fast, less stressed and enjoyed the drive more
as my mum says 56mph is a lot faster than walking or lying in hospital0 -
Preferably not in a 30mph zone! That could be expensive!!!0
