Halifax online

I opened a Halifax savings accounts a few months ago. After receiving my security details through the post I attempted to access online banking. No go
I called the 'helpline' a couple of times, but repeatedly 'failed' the security questions! A first!!
Close to cancelling, I finally went into the branch (2 times) for lengthy sessions one-on-one and on the phone to the 'helpline' (why do they send out a new temporary password each time, rather than just using the original temp password??).
Eventually... success. Yippeee!!! I'm 'in' to my online account. The opening page shows my account and its balance. Great. "I'll just click on 'details' and take a look at the transactions page" methinks. Error message!!! 'You are not registered for this action - please register this account'. er...I am registered!! Thats how I can view this page!!!
Calm down...there's an option to 'register an account', so I'll simply register my account. Can't be too difficult can it?? Error message!! "This accont is already registered" er...I know!! But you told me I'm not registered!!
I e-mail them the problem, and they recommend phoning the 'helpline'. hmmm. Two problems there; 1) I can't get past the security questions  2) I'm overseas and do not have access to an international line.
O well...I'm home in a couple of months so I'll have to go back into the branch....

In past I have set a password on my account and then forgotten it. I then tried to call halifax and got through to someone asking me what the secret password was, I cannot remember I told them.
At that point they put you through to someone else who can verify your details via other means, usually means speaking two people, one of whom does not know who you are (name etc) but resets your security passwords and the other is the person who will then be able to help you.
You need to try to call them back and go through that process of resetting your security details. Sounds to me you are blocked online (which should be of comfort to you really - its security).0 -
This has caught me out too with the Halifax. It turns out that I have two passwords, one for telephone banking and another for internet banking. I have given bits of the wrong password over the phone and failed their tests as I was unsure from which password they wanted the digits/letters from. If it is a telephone enquiry then give them the telephone password. I you are trying to log in it will be the temporary password you were given before you get to choose your internet access password.
The staff at the Halifax were excellent in helping sorting out my problem.

Thanks for your reply.
Mine is not a password problem. I can now quite happily login using my user name and password and can see my balance. It is when trying to navigate anywhere else that I get this error message telling me that I am not registered to do this action. (??)
When failing the security checks, there were two questions that they asked that might be the problem (all others I'm positive of):-
1) Balance? I said it is approximately a tenner. I explained that I am overseas (and opened the account online) and my missus paid in the opening deposit. As it happens, the balance is 11 quid (I also paid in 1 pound as a test transfer from another a/c).
2) Do I pay tax? I said "no, but I do not remember that being a question when I signed up for the a/c".
Yes, I have spoken to numerous people at the Halifax by phone (mainly from in branch) and yes, they always give me a new temp password. However, as I said, I can access the a/c - just not all of it, plus I have no phone access here to speak to a human about it
