Options
hi,
i swapped my gas and electric to ebico last month, and im paying quarterly on receipt of bill.
Q) what do i do if the reading is estimated please? as i want to ensure im being billed correctly.
do i just phone customer services with the correct meter reading? and do they then send me a new correct bill.

I am also with Ebico.. my last bill was recieved as an estimate reading... (last actual was 2 weeks before) I rang up with the new actual reading.. they just sent out a new bill. Mind i pay by direct debit.
For reference you should be able to submit monthly readings online, via the southern electric website.0 -

Ebico is free 0800 number, if I get estimated reading I just ring the correct readings in [free of course] and a new bill is sent out, I pay quarterly on reciept of bill like OPEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
If your bill is based on an estimated meter reading, you can contact us with an actual reading and the bill will be recalculated and sent out to you in 3-5 working days.
Once you've been a customer with us for a year, you will move to six-monthly billing so that all your bills are based on accurate meter readings. If this is not convenient for you, you can request to go back to receiving a bill every quarter.“Official Verified Account

I've been with Ebico for a couple of years now and this has not happened to me - I still get quarterly bills using estimates, apart from the latest bill I received just this morning for my gas usage from last October to January this year(!) for a whopping £1280!!! The usage is estimated at 34000 units for 3 months, and no, it is not just catching on previously underestimated bills - I get an actual read about once a year and my average annual usage is around 13000 units for gas if I remember correctly.
Thank God I am not on direct debit! I have just submitted an actual read online so expect a bill for the correct amount in the next few days... I'm just curious how your billing partner could get it so wrong tho AND it was still allowed thru despite being flagged up by the billing system (I received a letter a week or so ago saying there was a large bill coming but a few basic calculations using previous actual reads would have shown that it was totally incorrect) ?0 -

I suspect the problem, like all the companies, is a total reliance on 'The Computer'
The bills, even letters, are automatically generated and often not vetted by a member of Homo sapiens!
The same syndrome that allows banks to send out statements saying you are £1million overdrawn or in credit!0 -

The 6 monthly statements are only for customers paying by monthly direct debit.
Ok cheers. Apart from helping with budgeting there is no benefit from being on DD with Ebico (despite what their billing partner's CS operatives try to tell me), as any saving for paying by DD is added back on the bill so that everyone pays the same rates ( which is fair enough, and is why I stick with them even tho there may be cheaper deals available ). So I am happy enough paying quarterly, as my experience of utility companies and DD's is that they love to put the DDs up willynilly well over the expected usage until you find you are paying almost £150/month for an annual combined bill of less than £1000. Thanks for that Powergen!0 -

Your bill probably compensates for my last estimated gas bill for the 3 months ending March 2009. The grand sum of 13 quid!
If only. After I sent my actual reading, the bill came to about 10x that"Now to trolling as a concept. ....
