urgent O2 wireless help please

Options
Hi,

I was hoping that someone could help me please. I’ve no idea how to sort this out.

I tried to set up my O2 broadband on Tuesday, everything was OK using the installation CD apart from it connecting to the wireless, it checked the adapter and that was fine.

I gave it another go last night but to no avail. I called O2 and the service was excellent, he tried various things form delete settings and starting again to switching channels. Nothing worked until he got rid of the security and made it an open network, it was then connect via wi-fi fine. He’s now put the security on and told me it’s probably a problem with the encryption on the wireless driver and to visit the manufacturer website for updates.
I am using a Fujitsu Siemens L1300 notebook, I’ve been to their site but think I have the latest version?

Can anyone help me out please, as I’m unsure about drivers and techy things. Help would be really appreciated as I can only connect using the Ethernet cable.

Many thanks in advance

Thanks. I am using the o2 wireless box 2 and the mcafee that came with it
  • o2 have a FREE telephone number for broadband queries and their support is 24/7. Why don't you call them back for support with your problem and if first line can't help you, get them to raise a case with second line so as to fix your problem instead of posting here and wasting people's time?
  • Well, one way to tell people. lol ... Think they already phoned 02 if you read.

And excuse broadband providers come out with, come what may is 'it's your equipment, not ours that's at fault; you must have a firewall blocking it'. Yeah, um, okay sometimes it is. Sometimes it's faulty modem. Ask anyone who has ever used an Orange Livebox for example and they'll tell you. :D
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Thanks, hope I can be as helpful for you if you ever have a query.

I'll give them a call back over the weekend.
  • Are you at the point when it is asking for the network key?

Then are you putting in the supplied one from O2?

I had the same thing last week with my BIL computer. I went into the router settings & changed the security to wpa & put in a new network key from a site like this you can get a random key. https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm & it worked perfectly.

Another thing is that your router will be set with a wep network key & your wireless adapter will probably be set for a wpa network key, so they will not match up anyway. As I said above one of the settings will need to change & it is better changing the router for better security.

The settings on the box and laptop are WEP. Just got a new box today but it still doesn't work. On one of my many calls to o2 last week they connected remotely and got it working. When i tried the next day it wasn't working.

Just spent 2 hours on the phone and they still can't sort it.

Help please, it really sounds silly but it's doing my head in. Thanks
