off topic hospital issue

well guys im pregnant and had my first scan on nye im 13 weeks today

im sorry to post here but thought it was the most relevent place

when i received a letter from the hospital the envolope was addressed to me
name, address, postcode

however when i opened the letter it was addressed to someone 15 miles away name address and postcode

i thought that this was bad due to confidentialty should i complain about this as i dont know if my letter was sent to her instead!!!! i dont like complaining but i think that this is unacceptable

  • It will just be human error - not deliberately done.

Just redirect the letter to the correct address, sit back and think that you have done your 'good deed for the day'

Good luck with your baby scan!

I don't think there's a fat lot that you could do really... Maybe report it to your local PALS but I'm not sure what they would do.. Slap someones wrist probably... Like monsta said, it was just human error...

I do think that you need to tell the hospital about it - if only to find out your own results. It no doubt will be human error but someone needs to be more careful.

I'd say let the hospital know but don't make a big fuss about it. It is most likely a silly technical error but at the same time it is still unacceptable.

DH once got a load of stuff from his accountant detailing the ins and outs of other clients finances (some of these people would be fairly well known locally too so the info would have been saleable if we were unscrupulous) - I actually thought he was doing his accountant a disservice by not telling him, esp since he had a new secretary, but he refused to get her in trouble

What was the letter for though ? Was it for the scan appt ? If so how do you know the appt was for you and not the other lady ?

if you have this ladies scan reults -then someone may have your results - not only a breach in data protection but more than unaceptable - plaese contact pals and your consaultants (if youhave one at this stage) secretary and voice your opinions quite verbally!! the nhs may (as a gov department get away with this) a private practice would be hauled through the coals and face procicution and closure:eek:

  • i would complain, the error needs to be brought to their attention
    ;)
  • You do need to complain this is actually quite a serious mistake.
Suppose the letter was to someone you knew or someone famous? It breaches confidentiallity a lot.
We've had a serious complaint where I work due to someone's results being faxed to a wrong number.....

  • Yes, I'd mention it. Although this time it was presumably not too confidential, imagine if it was for an embarrasing condition or important news about a serious illness that had got mixed up. I'd bring it to the hospital's attention - you don't need to "complain" as such, but just let them know it's happened so they can train the staff better or something.
    Congratulations by the way!
