Cancelling BT rolling contract after 12 months

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has cancelled their BT 12 month rolling contract after 12 months, and if so how you went about it, do you have to write them a letter or can you just phone them up?
I'm about 10 months into a rolling contract and want to cancel and go back to a package with no free calls, just in case something unforeseen happens in the future and I have to cancel my phone line.

There isn't a package with no free calls.
It sounds like you agreed to the 'renewable' 12 month contract in order to get an upgrade from their Unlimited Weekend Plan to their Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan without having to pay the £2.70/month normal cost of the Plan. If you do not want to renew (they'll write to you about 3 weeks before renewal is due to seek your continued agreement), you'll just go back to the free Unlimited Weekend Plan.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
