Homemade gift tags!

Hello,
I normally only lurk on this forum - but I need a little help. Hope nobody minds me asking for a little assistance.
I like to think I'm quite crafty, have made all my own xmas cards as well as pots of gold for the xmas table, nappy cakes for friends babies and almost everyone will be getting a hamper for Christmas this year! (I have become obsessed...the world revolves around what will fit in to a basket!!)
The thing I'm struggling with is the gift tags. I thought about making them from clay, but are there any other alternatives? I'd like to make them myself - I don't see the point of working so hard to make the gift and then buying a tag which just wont do the present justice.
I will post some pictures of the things I have made once I work out how to do that (and also when I'm not at work!)

I don't believe in doing things the easy way.....

I've seen them made from gingerbread or cookies, iced with the recipient's name, they look distinctive and christmassy.
you can make them fresh to be eaten (wrap in cellophane) or glaze them to make a personalised tree decoration for next year.0 -
Hi freebiequeen - I cover clothing and price tags that we get here, I hate to see them just thrown in the recycling when they can be reused. I recover them with the off cuts of paper or scraps of material etc etc, and stamp them or add embellishments and then some ribbon or rustic string, there's a pic of one on this doorhanger I made;
The other thing that I've just done recently is use Shrinkles which has been great fun!!!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Wow! Shrinkies, that's a trip down memory lane! To those that don't know Shrinkies are thin sheets of plastic that you colour in, cut out and put in the oven and it shrinks and thickens. They used to make them in character sets (I remember having a flower faries one) but I think they sold blank sheets too.
As so many of my presents include felt I plan to make mini felt stockings with the receivers name (or initials if a long name!) embroidered on with a little folded card tucked in the stocking wishing them a Happy Christmas!0 -
Cheers freebiequeen, that one was a nice stiff Joe Browns one
But if you have flimsy ones or ones with strong colours you could stick 2 back to back as long as the hole is in the right place LOL, actually no reason why you can't cover the hole and move elsewhere anyway

:D Here's how they work
You can go town with your designs on them, I got some of the pink wallpaper ones, then stamped on it and coloured it in, looked great :cool:

This year i've made my tags for my presents. I made some different shapes out of mdf - or you can buy then off ebay and then i painted them in blackboard paint. I've then written on them with good old fashioned chalk. They look really good. xxx0
