Hi,
Some of you may be aware that Egg are currently doing 2% instant cashback at Shell petrol stations when you use their credit cards there. See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1248279 where the offer was spotted first by cheeryoleary then by me.
I then noticed that Shell do gift cards for other stores, such as Next and Debenhams. Cheeryoleary tried it out and bought a Next gift card (that he wanted anyway) from Shell with his Egg card and got the 2% instant cash back.
The reason I am posting this new thread is that I now notice that Shell (our local one, at least) does one of these prepay "credit" card things. Where you load a positive balance onto a card and then use it like a credit/debit card but can only spend what you've put on. In effect, it's a gift card accepted everywhere.
So, I'm thinking get one of these on your Egg card at Shell and then use this prepay card for what you would normally then buy.
(Obviously this is only worth it if you pay off your credit card balance in full every month!)
Haven't _actually_ tried it myself (haven't been back to Shell since thinking about it) but I figure it has to work.
Jim
Edit...
Seems like you pay a fee for using these prepay cards, so not really worth it. Still good for Next, Debenhams, etc, though.

Do they not charge you fees to use one of those prepay cards which would wipe out any cashback?

Yes...... I also saw this pre-paid debit card and was horrified by the charges. Something like 1.5% handling fee everytime you use the card.
