Hello all
In case existing or potential users of Chrome, Google's new web browser, are not aware of this, I quote
"The US Computer Emergency Response Team (US-Cert) also issued a warning about a security risk in the Chrome browser's default settings. The default is to accept all downloads without user notification. In today's age of malware, Chrome users should go into set-up and turn on the "ask where to save each file before downloading" option. You can find this in the Minor Tweaks, Options tab."
This is taken from a column in this week's Database Section of The Bangkok Post. This section is a "must read" for me every Wednesday as it often contains useful tips and hints for ordinary pc users.
They even accept email requests for assistance from overseas on-line readers so if this Forum cannot help you can email them. They pick out the most interesting enquiries to appear in their Help Column.
In case forum members are wondering, The Bangkok Post is one of Asia's most reliable and respected English language newspapers. And I am not connected to it in any way !! Just read it almost every day for 20 years when I worked in Thailand !!

These reports seem to refer to release 0.2.149.27, the current release being 0.2.149.30.

I've not studied the fixes, but at least Google seem to be quick at addressing some of the issues as they arise. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Not sure if current chrome downloads now have a different - and safer default setting - but I just downloaded chrome last weekend and when I checked today after seeing the report the "ask me where to save downloads" box was not checked.
Just as well for chrome users to double-check.0 -
If you're unsure about the security of chrome the this modified version is for you.http://www.srware.net/software_srware_iron_download.php
Its a German modified version with the "phone home" bits taken out. Fairly easy to follow the German directions. I;m using it now, faster by far than F/F and co.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
