Philippe Claudel's bleak but witty character study 'I've Loved You So Long' was a huge critical and box office hit in its native France. Kristin Scott-Thomas is already being tipped for awards glory for her performance as Juliette, a middle-aged woman estranged from her family, but now tentatively exploring reconciliation with her married sister. The film explores Juliette's reintroduction into a world from which she has been banished for 15 years, struggling to heal long-festering wounds and hoping for redemption. An incisive drama shot through with moments of dark humour, 'I've Loved You So Long' is one of the most interesting French films in recent memory.
