Nice idea about getting the extra by using a supermarket saving scheme. But and the big but for me. Is that you are locked in to spending the money in one supermarket.

And they might not always have the best deals around. So means you are stuck paying there prices.

    Yes I agree,

Noted that some prices on normal things jumped up in Tescos at Chrismas and came down after Christmas. Whilst 2 of the other supermarkets price did not move.

    mmm?

I have an Asda store card which I get a small amount back from because I use Asda for most of my shopping (including school uniform, etc.) so by using my storecard to put the money on my Christmas savers card I get vouchers back from my store card as well as the money topped up on my savers card.

By doing it all at once you don't lose out on any interest you may have accumulating else where but you get two bonuses.

Also with Asda you don't have to use it all at once you can just use it as and when - January sales!!

I've never done this before. Do you have to pay cash onto the card, or can you load it up from a credit or debit card?
Also is there an expiry limit for Asda, eg you have to spend it all by the end of January for example?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

    Hi Anniecave

You can use cash or debit/credit card to load up your savings card. However, I've just checked the T&Cs for the bonus and to get your bonus you have to use the total amount by 31/12.

  • Do you have a web link to the T+C's?
  • Just phoned ASDA customer services:

    - No online info - leaflets in store

    - Need money on card by 19th NOV to be able to receive bonus (available to spend 20th Nov)

    - Less than £49 = No bonus
    £49 - £97 = £1 bonus
    £97 - £143 = £3 bonus
    £144+ = £6 bonus

    - Can spend at ANY time in year, not just Xmas (however, if inactive for 6 months, ASDA will take money off card. But 'activity' is any amount on/off card)

    - Not able to use for purchases online or petrol

    Hope this Helps

I have an Asda christmas savings card,my local Asda make lots of mistakes with their pricing, and as everyone knows they give you £2.00 each time,:T I have £52.00 on my card at the moment and hopefully by christmas they will make a lot more mistakes,:j then I will top it up to £144.00 and they will give me another £6.00.:j I love Asda.:rotfl: :rotfl:
They are great for last minute christmas bargains and I also stock up non perishables.
  • My conclusion is that unless its at least 4% return it's not worth it.

You could get 3% cashback with GE Moneycard for groceries all year round, without the hassle of having to spend at specific times or lose interest on your money whilst you wait to spend the massive hoard of stamps you just bought.

Alternatively, paying with a Tesco Clubcard Plus account gives double points all year round, and after doubling them they are then quadrupeled by Tesco with their offers, this is much more valuable.
  • Can you buy the Tesco stamps with the Tesco Clubcard Plus Account?
