McAfee On-line Virus Scan - Not Installing - HELP!!

Options
I have subscribed to the McAfee on-line virus scan software for at least 4 years or so. I am running Windows XP with router firewall and also windows firewall activated.

Over the Christmas hols I have been on the pc a bit more than usual and have noticed that my security rating on viruses was not the highest it could be. I did a manual check for updates and got a window saying

Updates have been downloaded and are ready to install

Click install button to continue.

When I click on install - the window disappears but no installation takes place.

I have been in touch with McAfee support and they were kind enough to reply by e-mail quite quickly running me through a number of deletions of temp files, cookies, allowing scripting etc. However, when I had followed all the instructions, the install still did not work and I seemed to have more problems than I started with! I then did a system restore to just before I had done all the changes/deletions and the pc is back to normal.

I am now thinking of binning my McAfee subscription and taking up a Norton Antivirus version.

Has anybody else had this problem - any fixes recommended?

ANY ADVICE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

Many thanks.

Sassybird, I have used Mcafee for a couple of years now, whatever you do - DO NOT SWITCH TO NORTON! I notcied on Mcafees website the other day after having similar update problems over the christmas period, that they have stopped supporting certain versions of their software, therefore to continue to receive updates etc you would need to upgrade. Im not sure if this will help, but it certainly solved my issues, one upgrade later and I was back on track.

Could be a corrupted install, so (presuming you have the installation file, if not you should be able to get it from the McAfee site) just uninstall and reinstall the software, run all the updates and you should be back to normal.

If the case is McAfee have stopped supporting a version of their software (see post 4 above), you can then upgrade.

If you still can't get on with McAfee, consider changing to a free piece of software instead which work just as well as commercial software such as Norton/McAfee.
