Advice on selling an expensive book

I have never sold a book before on ebay, but have come across one that is worth £100 - 200.
It is an old astronomy book, so I'm thinking it would not be everybody's cup of tea, and feel that selling on the internet should bring more exposure.
How would be best to photograph this, as obviously I cannot take a pic of each page individually.
I have shown it to a local book dealer who thought I would get more for it in an auction.
Should I sell worldwide, and does this bring any pitfalls?
I do know about only accepting 'Confirmed' addresses etc.
Not sure what to do for the best.

By "auction", did the book dealer mean eBay or an antiques auction?0

Ah, I see.
The thing to do might be to have a look at the listings of other rare books on eBay and see what experienced sellers do.0 -
Have you had a look on Amazon?"This site is addictive!"

Yes, there is 1 available on amazon.co.uk, and they want £282 for it!
Dont know how long it has been on for though. I have never sold on Amazon...
Would it be worth it? do they charge fees?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

Listing is free on Amazon - fees come when you sell. You can put in the details up to the point of listing and it will tell you what the fees will be. You cant always go by what books are listed for already on Amazon as some are unrealisitc prices [particularly the US listers]. If you check the book on Abe books and Bookfinder.com you are more likely to get an idea of what it sells for.
If you need more advice theres a new sellers forum on Amazon too, its an unmoderated board and can be a bit hostile but if you ask the question and say you are a new seller they should be gentle!
Theres a selling on Amazon thread on this board with lots of info too.

Personally I would take a look at bookfinder first just to see who else is selling the book and for how much. Once you have an idea as to what else is out there you can have a better idea what sort of price you need to sell at. So if you opt for ebay then you can use that price as the openingbid to ensure it doe snot sell too cheap, if you list on Amazon it is a fixed price so again you need to use the minimum you will accept.
Ebay will charge you fees upfront and then more when you sell plus paypal fees. Amaozn will only charge you when book sells but the charges might be higher than ebay.
Abe require you to have an account before you can sell, so not the best place for a lone sale.
The suggetsion of asking on the sellers board on Amazon is a good one, I would try there as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Personally I would go for a specialist website.
I once had a coin which I put on ebay at a £2 start. It generated alot of intrest and before long I had bids of £50 +....it was about 15 hours before the end of the auction and I was told to remove it and sell it privatly due to the value of the item. 6 Weeks later id sold it at a specialist auction in France for £350!!Dec Wins : Gold Leaf Necklace

Thanks for the advice.
If I was to sell to somebody outside the UK, what postage method would be best?
Obviously it will need to be insured up to £500 or something, and if possible a signature at the destination.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0
