The Kitchen Revolution book giveaway. Did you get one? What's it like?

A couple of weeks ago, we blagged 30 copies of cookbook 'The Kitchen Revolution' for MoneySavers to have a try of. It's a meal planner/cook book which fits well into the MSE philosophy (see Cheap Supermarket Shopping). The giveaway is now closed, and the winners have been chosen.

The only thing we asked of those who got one is that they came back to the Forum to write a few words about it. So, if you were one of the lucky ones, or indeed you went and bought the book yourself, please post your thoughts below so others can see if it's worth investing in.

The Book's Blurb:

"Tired of deciding what to cook? Want to maximise your meals, with minimum time in the kitchen? The Kitchen Revolution is the life-saving cookbook you’ve been waiting for – home cooking using fresh, seasonal produce, with weekly planners, recipes and shopping lists that will enable you to maximise the weekly shop for you and the family. It’s the ‘back to basics’ approach, minimising waste through thoughtful shopping and a little preparation.

Each week features a Big Meal from Scratch (a delicious, filling meal for the whole family); Something for Nothing (two easy meals that use leftovers in a tasty and inspiring way); a Seasonal Supper (a quick, simple supper made from seasonal ingredients); Larder Feast (for when the fridge is bare, a whole meal just from storecupboard ingredients) and a 2 for 1 meal (a comforting meal that freezes well so that you can eat half immediately, and store half in the freezer)."

For more info on what's in the book have a look at the site: The Kitchen Revolution

Thanks to everybody that entered. :)

Glad it's not just me, Doveluvsu! I had started to worry in case it had been lost in the post!

  • Unfortunately my name wasn't chosen so I went out and bought a copy myself.
Got it for £15 new on Amazon (incl delivery) whereas RRP is £25.
Had a look through and think it is fantastic.
I just did my first shop last night on-line and it was really simple to get all the ingredients even though I'd never heard of some of them before. It is being delivered today so will see how I go, am quite excited as it's a bit of a lifestyle change.

The regimented style approach is totally suited to someone like me who doesn't have a lot of time to cook during the week (work full time and have two kids under age of 3) but really wants to eat good home cooked food every night using organic and seasonal ingredients, but at the same time doesn't have a clue what ingredients to buy from the supermarket to make interesting and varied meals, and also I really hate it when I end up throwing food away because it's gone off before I've worked out what to do with it... since there is no waste with these recipes it's ideal for me.

I think if you have your own repertoire with a decent enough variety or you are fussy about a lot of foods (e.g. won't eat fish etc) then this probably isn't the book for you, but if you are happy to try anything once and struggling to come up with new things to make day in day out then I think it's a great idea.

I feel I've been waiting for a book like this since I started cooking for myself!

We are in our second week of following the book. The recipies are really good and we haven't had to throw any waste food away (other than toddler rejects!) but it is very expensive to follow.
