www.jamroll.co.uk offer free hosting for your domain. You can pay a domain (e.g. .com/.co.uk/.net) for a few pounds and then use these hosts for free. They even offer mysql database and php support if you need it.
350MB in space and 5gb bandwidth for those interested in the raw stats. You can ask for more and they tend to give it.
They may stick some very small links at the bottom of your site. THey are not intrusive like most other free hosts, which offer even less space.
Just thought I'd plug them because of the excellent service I have received.

I noticed a post on here the last week about hosting a web page and using google, amazon etc to put there links on the site to earn money from them. Could I get a domain name and use this free hosting site to do that? If so, how easy is it to set up? I do understand that you have to have a site that people want to visit before you can earn from "clicks" as it were, all info links etc much appreciated0

I would be very careful with companies offering free hosting. I used one a while back to enter a web-design comp. The last time I went back to it I was confronted with a screen full of adverts, pop-ups and it also tried to install a virus on my machine. Not good for your visitors.
I would recommend checking if your ISP provides you with some free web-space before using these companies.0 -

I think this is what you are referring to -
https://www.google.com/adsense/
http://associates.amazon.co.uk/gp/associates/join/main.html/203-1448592-1923132
I have this on a couple of my sites and it is a good scheme - some people make quite a good living out of it but I'm not that lucky with the number of hits I get.
You can buy a domain name for a few pounds a year, find a hosting company (as recommended here for example) and you're off! Of course, then the hard work of designing a good site that attracts lots of visitors begins. Not so easy...

They only way you are going to make any money off advertising is if you have a web site that people really visit a lot. With google adsense, I find that I typically get about USD 0.01 per page impression. Obviously that varies with how inclined your visitors are to click on adverts. Google don't pay out until you have earnt USD 100, so you need about 10,000 visitors just to get your first payment. To get that many visitors, you need to have a site that is of interest to more than just your friends and family, which can be time consuming to maintain. Personally I think there are easier ways to make money. Add it to your site for fun, but don't expect to become a millionaire unless you work really hard on your site.
On a side note, I suspect that many people never hit the minimum payment level, so will never receive a payout, but google will still charge the people who's adverts are being clicked on. That's nice income for google if youi think about it.0
